Went to hook this up this morning, got the connector for the premium jbl sound and it powers up and works no sound coming from the speakers? I know some of you have this unit in your cars...mines a 97

Do i have to bypass the factory amp to use this?

check your connections you probably didnt connect something right. Theres gotta be an amp cable that has to be connected to the power. B/c if im not mistaken the speakers run thru the factory amp. Im no expert so maybe someone can chime in.

everything is connected right...as far as power, speaker inputs, etc. Ill go and check to see if i missed an amp wire since and see if thats it.

awesome! i totally missed the amp wire hookup, your are a savior!:D

Sorry, just got home and the second I read the title I knew the issue. Glad you got it though, how you like it?

actually i dont, im going to sell it and buy different touchscreen. Looks cool though and my subs are hooked up again which is a plus, but i dont particularly like it.

Never played with the D1 only the Z series and N series and I had a D3 in my Cobra. I liked them all. Whats wrong with the D1?

I just dont care for it, i want more options for pictures, backgrounds, screen savers, with an SD slot, usb slot, etc. Im thinking bout getting a cheap 200 dollar new 7" off ebay that does everything i want, it wont be name brand but they are nice

Ah, well then I suggest you save up for a name brand version. I know two people that have the $300 touch screen ones from ebay and they suck. Its little things like how long it takes to load maps or switch sources. Or if you are listening to a CD and turn the car off. When you start up again the deck starts the CD over. Then there is the lousy pre amp sections.

what decks do you recommend? i remember a thread before where you found a bunch of deals on ebay right away. I'm looking for something without giant buttons (mainly touchscreen) and dvd playback, i dont care about gps. I would like to keep it under 500 bucks.

Spend $600 and get an AVIC Z1 with the upgrades. It wont have a memory card slot but you can just load all your music onto its hard drive. If it has the 80gb drive then you have 60gb free for music and movie storage.

I havent really shopped decks based on having a memory card slot or background picture capeability.
Pioneer has a whole new series that I havent played with yet that will play movies and play memory cards for around $500 but IDK how well they work.

I dont have an IPOD anymore, just an Iphone so i dont need a big harddrive, Just something that is compatible to hook an ipod to it, plays cd's and dvd's. Whats the new line that pioneer has out? I want to be able to change the backgrounds and all that as well.

The D3 will controll an iPod (with the module) and has changeable back grounds.

Hmm, ill look into that.

I passed on the kenwood, wasnt happy with what i read.

Here's how the D1 looks

i will never understand why some put a nice head unit in the car but leave the stock crap connected to it. however if your shopping for a touch screen based on the backgrounds it has. then i can understand. personally id go for something with sound quality features and usability. after all your driving your not supposed to be staring at the background. i think the head unit you have in there looks nice in that pic. i myself have been looking at the avic-z110bt of course even on the bay it way exceeds the price range your looking for. however it does have all the features your looking for. i think the unit lazer suggested is a nice head unit. and can be found near your price range on the bay as well. i will also agree that you should buy a brand head unit. a good brand too. im with lazer im all about the pioneers. however keenwood does make some nice units as well but sound wise i dont think they compair.

what are you talking about? What stock crap connected to it? The speakers, the speaker wires? That and the factory amp are the only things connected to it, i have a 1400 watt amp, 2 polk 12's in the trunk. Why would i waste money on buying new speakers and rewiring everything when my stock speakers are fine and it sounds great. Maybe if i was loaded i would go all out but i just wanted a touchscreen cd/dvd player that looked good and hooks my subs up. Im could care less about all new speakers and all that right now, id rather spend money on mods.

Im not searching based on backgrounds but i wont buy a 500 dollar head unit and be stuck with a stupid f*cking background menu, i cant change. Im going to be buying a kenwood with a 6.95" screen.

scratch that, i picked up one with a smaller screen but itll do exactly what i want, refurb for 330 bucks, im selling the avic for more then that so itll be a nice trade off

FYI, if you bypass the stock amps and run a set of $50 Rockfords or Pioneer co-axials off the new decks power it will sound 30x better then the stock amp and speakers being driven by an aftermarket deck.
The JBL system can only do 21 watts RMS per channel, the Pioneer can do 22 rms per channel. The stock JBL amps have an eq in them thats calibrated for the stock decks output, doesnt work well with aftermarket decks.

thanks, i just dont feel like getting that involved with it, when i blow a speaker or something ill put some in. As long as i have some nice sounding tunes, with a nice cd player, and a little bit of bass im happy. The two polk 12's with a 1400 watt amp hits way harder then i need it to.
