Pics of fuel filter. Need a little help

I searched and did not see any threads with pics. Are the clips supposed to come off completely or just partial (Clips are the white/yellow things, right). Will a little tug do, or am I supposed to apply alot of pressure to disconnect it? I disconnected the -line of the battery but did not relieve the pressure.

Somebody already replaced that filter because those aren't the stock retaining clips. You can get those clips at your local auto parts store in the HELP! section. Sometimes those come out in one piece, sometimes they break. You should replace them regardless.

Thanks nyc lsc. I'm guessing by the comment you made that the clips are suppossed to come out completely.

Well, those aren't the stock clips, so they will come out in one piece unless they've been on there so long that they've become brittle. The stock clips were a horse shoe design with no real clip on it to pull it out like the ones in your pics with the triangular piece. Better off replacing them for the few cents they cost just for piece of mind. I still don't like the way the clips don't really seat right, but there's nothing else out there at parts stores that mimmick the originals.

correct - the width of the r-clips are just enough to prevent the tube lip from pulling through.

When I purchased my replacement Purolater brand fuel filter from Pep Boys, the replacement clips came inside the box with the filter

I also bought my fuel filter at pepboys. Same brand but no clips. I'll go to autozone and buy some clips. The clip on the left side doesn't budge so ill end up braking that one. After I take the r-clips off, will it be very easy to disconnect it from the filter? Do the clips hold the tube in place?

oh and after you take the clips off, i think you still need to tug a little to disconnect both sides

Breaking the factory clips!

Use a fuel line removal tool. That is the correct way to remove the fuel filter. If you just pull the odds are very high you will break them. I am surprised the old style Ford clips will work! The clips are not normally replaced because they are not removed, just spread open slightly by the tool. You then plug the filter back into the lines. It just snaps into place.
