Performance Chip Comparisons and Cold air Intake

Hello! I'm pretty new to this forum, and a 3 month owner of a 1995 Mk8 Base after falling in love with them (after falling in love with the Mk7 of course). Its got 105000 miles and in exquisite shape.

I've since then picked up a spare ECU, so I have one stock and one I can get reflashed; so there are a few chips around.

There are the SCT chips from Reinhardt, the Blue Oval Chips, the Jet (worthless) chips, and the LMS chip (although the owner of LMS says the chips are no longer availible, but he can reflash the entire ECU with the LMS program).

I understand that Dyno tuning is the way to go for optimal use, but I dont really want to spend 200 an hour for a Dyno shop to figure it out. Is there any place I can just give them my modifications and they give me a program?

I plan on updating the exhaust with one of the 2 1/4 systems from Mandrel Exhaust Systems, using stock manifolds, and a dual in dual out cat (have to keep it emissions legit in portland) as my "x". Unsure of what to use for mufflers, want it throaty, but not overly loud and drony at freeway speeds. Suggestions?

Anyway, chip suggestions would be great.

Also, I got a smoothed out, de-airlunged intake tube, what's the next cold air intake step? LMS doesnt make the "ice box" anymore, what's a good way to go about opening up the rest of it?

I could be mistaken, but I think spelling the vehicles name out either in full(Mark VIII) or short(Mark) is better than using the very much despised alphabet soup names that Lincoln had decided to bite from the other car manufacturers and that you're using to name the Mark. I suggest that only because I believe I've read other user's displeasure in Lincoln going that route for naming it's current models.

Or maybe that was a different Mark VIII fansite....

blue oval chips.
lonnie has (or had anyway. he may have gotten rid of it for all i know) a seriously fast mark viii.
i have a blue oval chip and its great. good drive-ability and no check engine light.
driller, with the fastest naturally aspirated mark that i know of, also suggests blue oval for a "mail order tune".
its still a "cookie cutter chip" but its a good one.
of course, you just can't beat dyno time though.

200 an hour for dyno time sounds high.. i'm pretty sure i've seen places closer to 100 an hour.

as far as intake, the stock air box and intake is pretty good. save your money for exhaust.
 
where can you get the blue oval chips from? & are they plug & play or do you have To get something done to get them to work?

unless your going to go with a bigger mass air, leave intake alone exhaust first
 
does the SCT chip you posted chris mess with anything major? theres gotta be a risk messing with the cars computer right?
 
don't have specifics, but the rev limit will be higher, so a higher chance to hurt something. you have to be more careful.

and i guess there is a slight chance you can fry the comp with a bad chip, but i don't see that being anything but a freak issue.

Unless you are a Gen2 guy in which case I would suggest a better intake AND exhaust since the stock Gen2 intake manifold is such a piece of power-robbing chit. :D Dude, I wish I could show every Gen2 owner what a difference the Cobra intake makes. I noticed something immediately different and a bit more nasty as soon as I installed my Cobra intake and took it out on the road for the first time.
 
i think instead of spending the 750 for the lms exhaust i might just get louder mufflers. i need 2.25 inch single in, single out mufflers-- anyone recommend something that will sound a lot better and more aggressive than flowmaster 40s? and part numbers would be appreciated too lol
