Passenger Side Fuel Like

Well, I filled up this morning to about 3/4 of a tank and while I was driving the Mark started to act like it was running out of gas. As I pulled into work I smelled gas and on the passanger side I have a lot of fuel coming out. This is just after yesterday replacing the oil adapater gasket. Can any tell me since the leak is coming from the passenger side what could this be. What a way to start the holiday's.LOL.

Passenger Side Fuel Leak

I know that its early but I am having a fuel leak not like. LOL

The fuel filter is located in the passenger side fender well area. Could be a possible leak, or the lines around it.

Right under the passenger side seat. Looks like its coming from a black plastic cover. It could be also coming from up above. All of the gas has run out and the tank is dry.

Either you have a hole in the tank itself or one of the lines that is held on by a small plastic clip has came loose. There are two of them. You would have to drop the rear section of the exhaust, unbolt the passenger side strap, front and rear and then unbolt the drivers side front of the strap.

The tank will come down far enough for you to see but you'll also need to disconnect the two rubber hoses that are held on with screw clams and also, the crossover tube which is rubber. Only disconnect the drivers side and then it will come down so that the entire pump and hose situation can be seen. You should at least be able to see where the leak may be coming from.

The plastic retaining clips that hold the two hoses on that feed fuel to the car can get brittle and could very well be your problem. If you don't have a garage to do this in, it can be a little annoying and make the job harder but I would say your leak is somewhere on the top of the tank and I think it has something to do with one of the two hoses. they are made of some type of hard plastic or something. they aren't rubber.

You say you did the gasket yesterday and now this. It sounds to me that if you used a lift to pick the car up you smashed, crimped, or broke the lines. They run right down that side of the car and are pretty exposed. One night i hit this intersection here in town cookin and bottomed out the car. It still ran fine so I didnt worry and when the fuel pump went a month later and I did the filter I noticed the lines were smashed [badly]. Probably helped kill the pump. But after I started payin attention to this on all marks and have sold alot of fuel lines since. they are in a bad spot if you ask me, too vulnerable.

+1-too much of a coincidence that you did that work yesterday and now this-you probably jacked it up on both sides and crushed or tore a line on the passenger side. That sucks

Also, I think the black plastic cover you're referring to is the actual tank.

Thank everyone for your input it is truly helpful. This is a update. I got the car back on the lift and it looks like the leak is coming from the top of the tank. Check all of the lines and no rupture lines so it look like I am ok. So, this weekend I am going to drop the tank and see what is really going on with the lines and clips. I am just glad that nobody got hurt and no damage to the vehicle is fine. I will let you all know the outcome and maybe take some pictures.

Yeah, I forget to give the year of my car. It's an 95 Mark VIII Black on Black.

OK,

Here is a update on my passenger side fuel leak. I drop the exhaust and tank and discovered that the clip on the out just blew out and fuel was just pouring out. I noticed that the orginial clip was a black 3/8 clip and on the return had a white 5/16 clip which is longer and sh uld be used when replacing the fuel pump. I replaced it with a 255. No runs no leaks and no errors. I thank you all for all your help.
