Painting woodgrain

How about a satin silver? It would really set off the black on black look.

BTW You plan to hit any shows this year? If so, let me know. We could meet up and show together. When the weather warms up, we need to get together for some pictures sometime.

I'll have to play around with some colors, see what looks best. Hopefully I can get something started up this weekend.

As for the shows Rollin yes I do plan to go to some. I still have to get some body work done, bus driver backed into me and waiting on their insurance company, and I need to get my McLaren grille installed. The first show I was looking at was April 6th in Waterloo. And we never can tell the weather around here, but I'd love to get some pictures, I'll need some new one soon anyways.

I know that Eleanor guy who used to be a member on here did his in Silver Frost Metallic.

I'm actually working on the project right now. It looks great so far. :) I am using the Krylon Fusion paint that sticks to plastics. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about this, but do NOT sand or wet sand the pieces prior to applying.

Okay I've had this done for a few days now but I haven't had the chance to get the pictures on here. Anyways not a bad project just set aside a few hours for it and get creative.

i don't want to be rude because i like encouraging fellow members work on their cars but it just seems to me like you could've lightly sanded the pieces before spraying them. i'm just saying that by the way these look but maybe it's the camera angle or something. please correct me if i'm wrong. cell phone piks?

Yes rick they are cell phone pictures but the paint actually turned out worse on the piece I sanded. The paint I used is made to stick to smooth plastic. The one piece I sanded I ended up having to put 4 coats of black on with 1000 grit sanding in between to get it smooth like the rest. Even then it is still not as smooth as I would like it to be.

I will get some more pictures done when I rest of the doors. Thanks Tom that grille should be on in the next couple weeks when I get it painted.

I did this in May of 2006, I think. One thing I'll say, beware of putting your key into the ignition. I chipped some of the paint and need to respray it when it warms up.

i am thinking about painting the interior wood parts with krylon fusion paint is this the best paint to do it with or is there another ?
another question is im looking for a silver or brushed aluminum look like the way the new lincoln ls come with what paint would be the closest to macth that if not i have a silver ls i was going to go with the same macthing outside which ever one is best thanks guys

I used the Krylon stuff when I first did it. It works good and gives it a nice smooth look. But I am redoing all of it the proper way now. It takes a lot longer but a few of my pieces turned out nicely and I don't know if I'll redo them.

Just curious as to what you consider the proper way?

Sanding, priming, painting. The Krylon does definitly work though. Be sure you don't sand or anything first though. Take your time and do it in the right environment.

how do you take off the shift knob? on a 03 want to paint the face plate of the shifter

Mine is a Gen1, but if they are the same then the black plastic slides down to reveal 2 screws. After taking out the screws just pull off the shift knob.

I thought painting the woodgrain shift knob to a polished black and having the Lincoln "star" logo etched on top with silver painted in it.......might make it unique...we'll see :/

be more worried about the door pieces. there is a glue back there. You need to pull the interior door panels off then get the same sixed drill bit back there to glean that glue crap out.

No, you would come off better if you'd never click the "Post Reply" button. 700+ absolutely useless posts in 2 months and you don't even realize why you get on people's nerves? Honestly, are you 17? I'm being very serious.
