Painting over the Chrome

Question, I have a LS Premium package 02 with the chrome pieces on it, I was thinking about painting them. How would I go about it? Just start painting of is there some sort of priming process i need to do first

Steps I followed above when I did my LS. Turns out nice. Thanks to the guys above for the write up and pics. My car below pic is 2001.

SAND SAND and SAND. Make sure that chrome is scuffed up really good then clean, promoter, primer, and paint.
 
Thanks guys, I figured there was a link to it or technique. Appreciate the help
