Hey guys - Im gonna grab a 1997 LSC I found for sale for under 2500 - its got about 143K on it, interior is mint (tan) owned by 1 person for most of its life (since 30K miles) and seems like a great deal - HOWEVER - its green =/

How much should I expect to pay to do the whole car over in either black or pearl white? I know Benz's and what not have special paint colors and those cost $$, but figured you guys could give me a ballpark on this.

Thanks!

waaco qouted me 1800 for the change from white to black but thats the 4 year paint job and all the jams and the door handles to remove and ect

Ehhh Ive heard horror stories about MAACO - but then again i think thats their Ambassador paint service. I jsut hate this damn green color - ehhh

i love the white color but damn i have always wanted a black on tan mark 8 and i dont wanna buy a new one i have so much invested in this one

Black on tan sounds nice, but Id really love White on Black, or White on Ivory...

*ejaculates violently*

i have a white on ivory and i hate that combo and to get it repainted the same way its 2500 and that dents and ect taken out and repainting my door handles as well

Ill swap you my tan interior for your ivory :)

Now, isnt MAACO pretty pricey in comparison to independent shops?

i was quoted for a repaint of my three stage pearl 4-5k. he said the paint was about $200 a pint or quart or something like that

anywhere from 2k-5k depending on what your gonna have done. changing colors drastically is tough, you gotta do the jambs, inner doors, underside of trunk, hood, and dont forget the engine bay will be green in some areas. When i paint my green car, im gonna leave it green but go with a darker shade.

imho i wouldn't put that kind of money into a 143k, 13 yr old car...

i had my old caprice painted at macco and was happy. i got the intergrated clearcoat job for 400 bucks..a friend and i did all the prep prior to giving it to them...3.5 years later before i sold it it was still lookin good minus acouple areas were me and my friend slacked..(shaved emblems, antena, trunk lock,ect)...Would've looked great if we took our time on those parts.

a few years ago i had one of my first gen auroras painted at earl scheib or however you spell it. i bought the 950 dollar top of the line paint job. the original color was grey with a gold pearl( kind of copper looking or caramel)
and i changed it to candy apple red with a gold pearl. it looked great. i didnt need any body work though, so i cant vouch for the type of body work they might do over there.

Had my 93 painted last year for $1200. It was a independent shop and he was pissed after he started to work on it. because it had more dings than he thought, and I was bugging him to much at times.

He did pull the door handles out enough to paint behind the rubber trim, I pulled all the lights, trim and badges.

A different primer for the hood was used for the dark spots. and it turned out nice initially but after about 6 months it has a blister towards the back edge.

He had the thing for months and put it on the back burner. Will not ever use him again but for 1200bucks its a fair to decent paint job, for the age of the Mark.

If you decide to have it painted be sure you wash it with a good soapy detergent to remove the wax . A good paint will cost you $2500 to $3500 . I would go to one of the fast paint joints get a small shop to do it. It will pay in the end
