I have been looking at getting my own reader for some time now and I've found one that seems to be a good deal:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008PTKIEG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A8Y9N35ANEOVV

I know these won't reset codes, but does anyone know how I can tell if a certain reader won't read ABS codes or Airbag codes? I slightly remember conversation about general OBDII's and how they may or may not read these types of codes.

Mostly, I would like to find the root of my ABS light, my Traction Control light, and the Airbag light.

Also would like to look for some misfire's as I have some rough shifts and random poor acceleration.

Thanks folks.

It doesn't mention any manufacturer specific codes, so I wouldn't bet on it.

You don't need a scanner for the airbag light fyi.

No, you don't need one because you can count the lamp flash codes, but a good reader will give you SRS codes with more detail than you can get from the two digit codes.
Fortunately, the majority of SRS problems with the LS are either the clock spring or the connector under the driver's seat.

Thanks joe, do you know of any that give manufacture specific codes?

Ian.

There are several.
The one I have is autoenginuity. It's about $400 for the one with the Ford expansion.
I have heard of some really low cost bluetooth + smart phone tools that cover manufacturer specific codes, but I don't know of one in particular.

Is this the one your referencing?

It seems a little steep, especially if you've had it for some amount of time.

I might try to look into something else. I don't mind paying good money for something good, just not for something that could be cheaper.

Edit: This one seems to hold some promise:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003IOITRG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A30DGJTMHYAU9C

The ABS link specifically states our cars, not sure about SRS though.

Also, I did count the lights tonight. does six followed by three ring a bell?

Ian.
