I have the opportnity to get the adaptor plates for the rims cheap.. i will do a hub swap in the future but for the price i mind as well. Ive heard good and bad. just want to see what you guys think. Safe or sorry?
 
you want opinion's, here is mine, i dont believe in adapter plates, if you cant find a wheel that fits, bolting on a chunk of aluminum with 5 other studs in it sounds like a rig job. i personally wouldnt use them, i'm not saying they are or arent safe, but i wouldnt put them on anything i own. mostly cuz i like to drive aggressively at times and the fact that the wheels are held on by something other then the actual car's studs, nah, i'd wait till i had money for wheels made for the car, or do a hub swap now.

Well then I will! ;) I have no personal experience, but from what I have read they are not a good idea.

Think of it this way. One installs a washer on a bolt, this is really so it can be loosened later since metal on metal can bond.

Now by adding and adapter plate you are really adding a washer. This can create a situation where the rim can break loose. Its no different than using anti-seize on the lug nuts!

While they can work fine, there is a risk. With a Mark VIII that weighs a lot, well, I would not take the risk personally.
 
I agree with you both. I do tend to drive rather aggressivly and i was concidering the strength of the studs on the car and on the adaptor. Just wasnt sure if anyone actually used them or not and if any problems ever occured
 
just get the hubs, I couldnt find any used cobra rear hubs so I had to buy new (180.00 from maxx) and got front hubs and rotor off a low milage 02 mustang for 75.00. Plus bareings and what not from napa.

As far as adapter plates would not trust them I dont even like useing spacers on cars
 
Theres nothing wrong with using spacers...my boy who tracks his m3...his soul use for the spacer to get the rims as close to the fender as possible...gives a great look...never had an issue the only problem is using the bigger nuts provided for the m3 you can touch the inside parking brake shoes and get a grinding issue...

I use antiseize on the lug nuts... there's nothing wrong with it. Ever have to cut a lugnut off? It's not fun
 
just checking here... so it's common place to convert the front/rear hubs to mustang/cobra hubs? So you get the benefit of a larger selection of wheels I assume? And this is a direct swap?
