As long as the MKS is a wrong wheel drive, I could never see owning one. I've ditched my last front wheel drive vehicle and will never willingly buy another one again. Even a Dodge rear wheel drive would be better than any front wheel drive.
185k makes it almost not worth it to keep as a dd... what do they want to buy it back?
im buying mine back. +1 to whoever said junk yard with prepainted parts, you can really dick with junk yards on price to, they want business. ive got an 05 v6 with 70k miles; they estimated damges at like $9k haha it has a crease in the RR qtr panel that i probably wont remove and some heavy scratches on one side of the front bumper cover but you cant go wrong considering i have a whopping $1700 in it, and that includes the $1300 they want for the salvage. if it didnt have a branded titled and looked the way it does it would sell for 7 grand or so here.

i think grell said he wanted a gen2 for cheap; check autotrader near mentor, ohio. 04 black v6 dirtcheap. says strictly as-is sales only so its prolly got a major mechanical issue and no pics of interior so thats prolly effed up too. non-sport parts. i think it was like $1400..
Its funny going back and reading this comment. I've gotten used to the fwd. Thing drives so smooth its not an issue. I have had some fwd rentals that in order to go full throttle you'd have to have both hands on the wheel to control the car. But there is a definate ability to feel the car being "pulled" vs. being "pushed" (fwd vs. rwd). You woulndt think it would make a difference in the feeling but it sure does. Again, not a difference that i mind at all. Another couple weeks and i'll forget what it was like to drive a rwd.

Even borrowing a RWD for an hour was like going home and it would take weeks to get back used to driving the FWD. One or two of the FWDs even had torque steer 100 percent controlled, but it made no difference. Never had to be told whether the car was FWD or RWD either, if I didn't know when I sat down in the driver's seat I knew within a mile what I was driving.
But as long as you're happy, that's the important bit. You're not buying your car to make me happy. I hope you continue to enjoy driving your car and that it does well for you for years to come. Just don't expect to hear me say "I gotta get me some of that."

It's not really about torque steer. It's about cornering steer. Unless there is no other option I will never own a sideways engined FWD appliance again.
Not to be a Debbie Downer but just wait until you need to do any engine maintenance. On our old Sables the front three plugs were worse to change than getting to that rear bolt on the coil covers on the LS. Getting to those back plugs on the MkS looks to be a challenge! At least the battery doesn't need to be vented

Nah, not trying to convince anyone. I would be lying if i said i wouldnt prefer rwd vs fwd. But you deal with what you got. Before i had a 4dr sports sedan, now i have a 4dr luxury cruiser, and you drive it for what it is. If anything it produces a calmer driver. Id push the LS to its limits, hitting 130mph, taking curves fast and tight, taking off from lights like a bat outta hell. None of that is gonna happen with the MKS and honestly thats a good thing. Kinda of a maturity and moving on thing. People dont buy corvettes to do 35mph going to the grocery store and back and on the flipside people dont buy an MKS and expect to be Earnhardt Jr. The car itself produces a sense of calm and relaxation. It still moves ok and its slighty troubling because you dont feel the speed in the MKS. I have made a turn onto a 45mph road and looked down and was going 67mph. Never would have guessed it. Still have plenty of power to pull into traffic or make lane changes or pass the idiot on his cell phone, but not the kind of driving all of us LS owners are used to. Earlier in my life i wrecked a Trans Am and bought a Dodge Intrepid. It had its reasons.... married, newborn child. Didnt expect the Intrepid to "replace" the Trans Am and im not expecting the MKS to replace the LS. But its a fabulous car, comfortable as hell and built on the safest american auto platform, same as Taurus. (as reviewed by jd powers)
Plus by the time my right foot gets itching again a used (2013) will be cheap to buy and fast as hell if i ever wanna haul ass again. Time will tell. Meantime, got out of the LS under the best of terms and moved on and am happy with the choice. Not expecting to win any MKS people on here. Speaking of, go look at the MKS forum.....place is dead. MKS owners dont wanna talk about mods and how to go faster. Its a different pace all together.
BTW.... on the maintenance side, i wont be touching it until 2015. So i got another three full years of bumper to bumper "clean hands". If its a pain to get to the back plugs i'll let the dealer worry about that one while im driving my free rental.

I have both headlights and grille. I would be willing to give you a great deal on. That is total BS. They give you a name of a car dealer that would "give you a great deal".

Of course those prices are stupid. Also why i bought a new oem a/c compressor for $400 when the dealer wanted $800. LS parts are hard to come by according to their terms. Hood alone had to to be new oem and was $1700. You and i both know we could find a new hood for waaaay less. But its their claim and their rules. I got a $7144 check for a 7 yr old car with 185k miles. Sentiments aside for the LS thats a great deal. And as i have said before, after seeing my car at the repair shop taken apart with broken sh!t everywhere i honestly didnt want it put back together and given back.
I had a co-worker that bought a new 'Vette in 1992. Upon leaving work he went through his getting-ready-to-drive-the-'Vette routine. He spent a minute or so making sure his driving gloves were on perfectly, checked his mirror to make sure his Ted Nugent hair was perfect, etc. Then he proceeded to coast (he had an automatic) out of the parking lot. He got pulled over on a street with a 45mph speed limit for going.............

Don't blame you for taking the money and bolting on it. Its just BS that they run those prices like that.
I guess in one way its a good thing knowing the insurance company isnt getting some shady estimate and cruising scrap yards with sh!tty used parts just to put your car back together as cheaply as possible.
But honestly the engine had just developed an oil leak. I was thinking oil pan gasket, the dealer suspected rear main seal. Either way they wanted to do a thorough inspection to find the source. It started leaving oil spots all over my driveway making a mess which i now need to try to get out. I had spent so much money on my LS with repairs and with the oil leak i was in for even more. The suspension was showing wear with inevitable repair in the near future. I got out right when i needed to. I owned it for six long years. Thats enough time for me.

Nah, Wally-world = Wal-Mart. And, it does a pretty decent job. I used to have a Reatta with a real leak problem that when I sold it made the asphalt street out front look like crap. Just pouring it on and letting the rain wash it away got most of it up. If I'd have had the time to get out there with a broom and scrub it in, it likely would have gotten it all out. My own concrete driveway would look far worse than it does without this stuff too. It's not all that great on rust stains, but it cleans the oil right out.
