Oil Pan Gasket change on 94 Mark VIII

Has anyone changed the oil pan gasket on the '94 Mark VIII and know the process. I haven't seen it in any search and a manual for Mark VIIIs is of little to no help.
 
have fun with that one. suspend the motor in the engine bay, unbolt the motor mount bolts and drop the entire fron end, then crawl under and drop the pan. if wont be fun, and if you pay to have it done, it will be far from cheap too.
 
me and my buddy did it on his 89 T-bird supercoupe- as said above, the motor had to be lifted and the front end dropped down. Absolute pain to do but we got it done in a night. We put new motor mounts and trans mount too since the motor was already jacked up- id recommend doing this too so you dont have to go through the procedure again down the road.

funny part was that it ended up being the front seal not even the oil pan gasket haha

Does the exhaust need to be disconnected or any other systems?
 
If you support the engine and lower the K member, things that are only attached to the engine (like the exhaust) can stay in place.

i just did mine, cuz the pan rotted out, so first source a used pan thats in good shape. i left the exhaust alone and basically followed these guidelines http://www.geocities.com/confiscviiitor/oilpan.html had the pan in my hand 30 minutes later (i do have access to a hoist :D)

I tried that site but it was down. I have a hoist, jack stands, floor jacks, ramps, compressor, etc.

Once supporting engine will this giveme access to the motor mounts? I don't see any way to get to the motor mounts.

As far as I can see right now, the pan does't have any serious rust, as the pan has been leaking since I bought the car a few months ago. Weather here in NY is getting nice enough that I can work on the car.
 
Oh boy.....This sounds like a fun project that im going to have to under go in the next couple of weeks :(

I really wish we had a lift

I am pretty sure it is the oil pan gasket, as I saw it leaking at front of engine at the oil pan. while the weather was cold the oil spilled out until the engine heated up. Now in the warm weather the leak is not so severe.

Good luck. I am using jack stands to do this work, I don't have the luxury or better yet the connections to a lift. I will try to get pictures and some detailed procedure while I 'm doing this, to pass along. I recently had to change the drive shaft out, it broke in half, and there was not much info about the problem.

The front universal joint was badly worn, at 60 mph started getting heavy vibrations. found out that middle of the 2 DS hangers was wearing away at the DS. I suspended the rear end and spinned the wheels to check for what and where the noise was coming from and the shaft broke. The shaft is NOT solid as it looks. I couldn't learn this from any searches on line. I will give details and pics later when I get home.

What a pain that is @$#@$. My lower starter bolt had backed out sometime in it's life and sheared off the head and the bolt shaft got bent in the process - Joy, joy.

There was a lot of noise when at high speed (60mph +) but mostly normal at low speed. The tip off if I had know, was when I put the car in gear there was a thunk every time as the shaft turned and the play in the universal was taken up. another clue was, when I first got the car I would hear squeeking in the universal which I recognized from a van that I once owned, however the van problem never was urgent enough to change universal. I didn't think it to be a big deal on this Lincoln. I was suspecting other things like the tires and differential.

unless gen 2's are different chicken,
Starters are easy without removing anything,

i had to replace a starter 3 times ,i kept getting defective ones at autobone and finally put a local rebuild shop unit in,i became a pro at getting my starter out and in, on my gen 1,

just a bunch of 1/4" sockets extensions and swivels.
 
yeah mine were too tight for 1/4" anything, i had to weave 1/2" extensions through and a big old breaker bar on the end to get the bolts loose, it was a fun time
