Well I got to changing the oil in my 98 for the first time,1000 miles on it since I bought it. I know it's fresh now. Not one drop spilled. It was a walk in the park compared to my 95 that I been doing for 13 years. I use the corner braces from shipping boxes 3"X3" about 18" long. They fold and bend to fit under the oil filter and let the oil drain into the pan. I've even coated one with metal duct tape. It'll last longer than me.

Pictures on this thread will also last longer than you! :D... PLEASE?
 
Old dust pans work too...

Or relocate the oil filter ;)
 
A piece of aluminum foil works just fine. I screwdriver the filter for a nice controlled drain.
 
I can't seem to change my oil without making a mess. When I take the filter off, I usually loosen it enough for it to start dripping and let it drain down into the little channel in the crossmember and drip down into the oil drain pan. then take the filter off and...eventually...get it out. That's the messy part. Once the filter is off the engine, I have to turn it over and snake it around between the sway bar, steering rack, crossmember and whatever else is in the way and it is a PITA. That's what happens when you try to shoehorn a wide DOHC V-8 into a space that was originally designed for a 3.8L pushrod V-6 engine:rolleyes:
 
It slides in and out of that area with plenty of room if youve got it directly under the thermostat hose

I hate to argue, but there's definitely not "plenty" of room under there. I've been changing oil in Mark VIII's for almost 13 years and I've always had the problem of "snaking" the oil filter out because there's just no room under there. And even when I get it out, it doesn't just come out easy. It "squeezes" out. Some day I'll make a video and post it. After seeing it, any suggestions for making it easier would be greatly appreciated.:)
 
If you haven't moved the filter, a properly bent piece of cardboard will funnel the dripping oil away.
