off road driving lights..too much?

I'm gonna pick up some hir's and some cheap driving lights from this site http://www.rallylights.com/Optilux/Optilux_Auxiliary_Lamps.asp after ray said his 85w lights still sucked I was wondering if these off road 100w would they be way to bright? http://www.rallylights.com/Optilux/optilux_1900.asp

they also sell a remote control wiring kit for the optilux so you dont have to go through the firewall

I'm not that worried about glare for other drivers since i get blinded by every other car with aftermarket hid's

I know it makes me a jerk, but i live in vancouver and it rains 99% of the year and I'm sick of only seeing the white lines of the road while driving at night in the rain... praying to god something is not in the middle road 20 feet ahead

one lucky thing for gen 2's is they never here from passengers turn on your lights!! when they allready on

by the way,rallylights.com is a good place,its about 15 minutes from where i live,i havent actually purchased from them yet,but they have answered my questions i had a few years ago,nice people.
 
I used to have a set of fog lights behind the grill in my 95. A must have for gen 1 w\o HID's. I got them from walmart for about $30. It even came with a remote so I didnt have to worry about wiring.
 
I was thinking of grabbing a pair as well, i restored my headlights by sawwing them open and refinishing the reflective coating, they still suck. Have you (or anyone else) bought a pair that you recommend? I plan on putting them behind the grill as well.

They still suck? The ones I did kick azz & really light up the road nicely. They are almost as good as my brand new headlights that cost $400.00!:cool:
 
They're 10 times better...but

They look so much better than before, I also added silverstars. Because of the time it took me I couldn't get step by step pictures. The pictures below are of one of the housings before I sealed it up. In the night picture I took it after I finished the passenger's side. That picture is with the silverstars in both and is on the lowbeams.

As far as performance, I can still barely tell my lowbeams are on, I have since switched my silverstars into the highbeams and STILL run those exclusively. But they do shine so much brighter, and I can actually see a little with them, so it was worth it.

I've decided to get a set of driving lights, I'll have to mount them behind the grill I assume, and would like something with a bright white maybe bright white with bluish tint, nothing ricerish. I'm looking for something that will make a huge difference, and I suck with wiring. As far as connection, do they go straight to the battery, and turn them on with a wireless remote? That'd be worth it, if anyone has a website besides the first one listed that'd be great, sorry for the long post.

My girlfriend will be buying them as a gift, so under 200 is the price range. I'm looking now and see a kit for 700
 
that looks like silver duct tape you use on hvac installs, it looks silver not chrome, you needed to use trimbrite chrome metalized tape, its as chrome as a old school bumper, that silver crap doesnt reflect anything, here look at my driverside hid lense i redid on my 93 you will see the difference from yours to mine. all those wrinkles in yours doesnt help at all.

Those reflectors kick ass! Did you say these are out of a '93? The lens looks completely clear. Will 2nd gen hids fit 1st gen cars? Did you make the lens?
Did you use any adhesive in additon to the backing on the trimbrite?
How long does this repair last with the heat from the bulbs?
Can you buy high wattage bulbs brighter than the silverstars for stock gen 1 lights?

advance auto has it next to the go fast stickers and pinstripes, its called trim brite, one roll is a little more then enough to do one complete housing, its like 6 bucks a roll. its pretty thin.

Im gonna do mine very soon. I got a darn ticket last night on a dark road cos my lights were so rubbish i couldnt see the speed limit sign change from 65 - 50 -DOH. Heck, i dont even know if there was a sign. Sux!

Will try the above to loosen and reassemble and Jamie's method for the actual refinishing. Will post em in this trhead if all is good.
 
techinally its my car, but my wife drives it, but since i sold my 98, now i drive it too lol. my lenses are so clear because the headlights are 96 lsc hid lenses, all the hid leses are that clear. i cut them when i re-do them, i have never tried the oven and i wont try it, i have seen too many melted. the lenses in a 2nd gen wont even come close to fitting unless you get sawzall happy or change the entire nose over to a 2nd gen. i have done too many of these resto's. the hid's dont put out nearly the heat that the standard halogen bulbs do, so i will never have to worry about a heat problem wrecking this trimbrite. as far as halogen bulbs, i have never seen one of my assemblies effected by the heat from the halogen bulbs. the trimbrite tape is real metal, with an adhesive backing on it like a sticker, it is not chrome vinyl or chrome paper, its real metal tape, but cuts with scissors just like paper. i have also done this for customers its not just something i do for myself so if people can be without headlights for roughly a week, i can re-do them, they take me about 3 to 4 hours each, plus the time it takes to ship to me and back to you. when i am done, they look like new factory housings.

you got balls takeing those HID houseings apart, I need to do the same to mine but dont want to mess it up.

I dont think its balls he just done it enough times.

You must have enough old lights laying around to practice on.:)
 
right is has nothing to do with balls, just have to have patience and some common sense. its no harder then changing oil.
 
The oven trick didn't work for me. I bought a pair of those walmart driving lights with the remote control so I'll just suffer until I spring for new housings.

Ditto. The first one i tried came apart nicely at 325 F. No problem. The second one, however... Man, what a pain! The lens melted before it would come apart and i tried everything! Me thinks it had been resealed at some point with an araldite like substance or something... Anyway, Jamie97lsc has a good pair for me, so will fit those. He has more sets too, incase anyone needs 'em...
 
yeah jamie i'll probably be in the market for a set of your refinished lenses, with my income taxes im painting the car, and the lights would be the last exterior thing to take care of, screw the driving lights. how much?
