I think I'm having the same problem with my 2003 LS V8. Any updates on a fix?
Going on a short trip, 30 minutes one way, and the car said it was overheating and went into the reduced power mode and the check engine light came on.Turned the car off for about 10 minutes, started it up and ran fine the rest of the way, although there were some popping noises and a loud whirring noise of which seemed to be coming from under the dash on the passenger side. On the way back home the car overheated again without even leaving the city. After getting a friend to come follow me in case I had problems decided to drive it home. The some noises were present but it never overheated. The temperature gauge rose to about almost overheating but then suddenly dropped to half. The heat didn't work either going back home. Felt like the car was just pushing air. Eventually after about 15 minutes the air was a bit warmer which is I'm guessing was from engine heat. It was by no means hot as it usually is. Anyways, after getting home made a trip to autozone to get the sensor read. It overheated twice, once each way to and from Autozone, a five minute trip. One time after turning it off steam came from under the hood. Only let the car sit a couple minutes this time. The code was P1299. What is most likely the problem? I've read thermostat and to check the coolant. Autozone also suggests failed cylinder head temperature sensor.
