Last light my CEL came on and the code is P0153 which i believe is the ckt slow response bank 2 sensor 1. Is this something I can do myself or should I take it to the mecanic? I'm not so handy with cars. If I can do it myself can someone tell me what I need. My car is an 01 LSV8 with 132,000 miles.

Thanks!!!

You can just assume that the 02 sensor is at fault (probably a reasonable assumption for that particular code) and change it yourself, or you can take it to a dealer for the proper troubleshooting. It's an economic risk either way.

If you want to do it yourself, then you will need an 02 sensor socket, and a pull handle to use with it. With the right tools, changing an 02 sensor ranges from easy to very difficult. It depends on how stuck yours is to the pipe it is screwed into.

The O2 sensors in the front are a 5c5z-9f472-aa listing for 109.71 each and LVC members pay 64.18 each....the catalyst monitors (rear O2) sensors are a 5w6z-9g444-ba listing for 105.80 each and LVC members pay 61.89 each plus shipping.

And as Joegr says that special socket is well worth the $$ or that job can be a PITA

and some PB Blaster - to let it soak in. Do not use WD-40 as it will ruin the sensor.

Advance Auto Parts has a set of three o2 sensor removal sockets which you "buy" then return for full price after you are finished with them part of their tool rental program.

Also what Quik said, PB Blaster the hell out of it. I'm not sure where it is exactly on the LS but I changed one on another car and all you need is the right socket head and the right leverage and it's very easy.

Thanks for all the responses. Where do I find wher this is in the car and is this the sensor or moniter? I called to get the part and the man said that it could be a sensor or monitor, Which do I need?
