not happy with ride over 70mph any answers

i experience the same problems, i have always chalked it up to being the size and weight of my rims. i have 20 inch rims and they weigh around 40 lbs a piece. im sure the tires are a big part of the problem too. when i have my winter set on i dont get any issues (245/50/17). but my steering wheel has a little play to it as well, about 1/4 inch each way that makes the car feel a little wobbly. not sure what causing that though.

play could be from anything, the tie rod ends, ball joints, rack, hub/bearing

haha!! Reminds me of the time that I was going 140, answered my phone and drove with one hand on the wheel.

Me old srt 4, had so much fwhp that it took everything you had to keep it straight at any speed under throttle.

Recently, I complained to the tire guy that my car vibrates too much at 90. He told me to get new tires, and that he had some rated for 135. I laughed and said that wont work! :p

My SRT4 wants to change lanes when the boost comes on... torque steer sucks the big weenie....

had my Stage3 up to 172, hitting the limiter, with a friend riding shotgun holding his Travel Eyes 2 GPS unit checking the speed since the speedo in the car only goes up to 160, poor guys knuckles were white but he said he wanted to be onboard

felt like she still had more in her

Hey, where in WI?

In Delafield. My uncle Kurt owns a steakhouse up there and thats where everyone is at.

When I had my cts-v I could go 160 and it would still feel better on the road than the LS doin 65-70, I know, I know, two totally different cars, but still! I guess I am wanting too much from this LS.

I will be getting the rear upper control arms
(if the boots are bad) and adjust links swapped tomorrow. Along with the alignment. I am going to have the guy at the shop take a look at everything also. He bought an 02 new and just sold it last year so maybe he will have some good advise. I'll let ya know how things turn out.

And what the heck is the steering rack? any pics? Is it hard to swap?

wait, nevermind, found it. #4
1) OUTER TIE ROD 2) TIE ROD BOOT 3) INNER TIE ROD 4) RACK 5) HOUSING 6) ACTUATOR

There is NO play in my lower balljoints(brand new), hubs, inner and outer tie rod ends. Everything is nice and tight. So that rules out worn neglected parts. I had the wander before I put new lower balljoints in. They where loose and I thought it might be those making it wander. Wander still after new balljoints. I have NOT brought it in for an alignment check yet though.

You think 70 is to fast??? But it will still wander at 65 on highway.

Nah 70 isn't fast too fast. Just giving you hell.

Around here, less than 85 and you are in danger of being run over...

Yeah I feel that sometimes too.... still got me tickets though; lots of tickets.

The fastest I've had my LS is 104. I just don't trust tires.

Yeah some days the balls are just bigger than others.

I had my LS for a year or so before I got the nerve to push past 100. I found the limiter at 133 on my 04 v6 on a nice road here in AR.

Do the alignment check and let us know!

What year is your car? Ford changed the steering pump setup abit from 2000 and other years. My 2000 has NO pressure switch on the pump. 2000 is located on the PS line down by the rack. See if you can get your alinment specs before and after so we can compare.

Bad ass! Mine was also stage 3r with toys. Running meth and peaking 28lbs/hold 19lbs. :D

I raced a friend (in mexico ;)) hit 140 and was all over the road just dancing in and out of the grooves. I was having difficulty. That car would just skate left and right under power.

I always wanted to top speed the car, but never had the balls after that day. Supposedly the srt4-n is aerodynamically capable of speeds over 200mph, which is rare especially with how it looks. :D

I ultimately ended up wrecking the car (in mexico) at about 120 and flipped end over end 5 times. :( Going around a corner racing and buddy came towards me, let off the power and tapped the brake. Rear end flipped around on me. Stupid fwd, and having a track built car that I was not trained to use. :shifty:

it's not that the car has FWD that caused your demise...

the SRT is front biased in weight and displays lift throttle oversteer, so if you get in too deep and lose your nerve, most guys take their foot off the throttle and bring the tail around

more SRT4's are wrecked that way then any other way

too many young lives have been lost behind the wheel of an SRT because of inexperience

Thank you. It could have been a lot worse, but I did walk away from it. Well hobbled. haha

You are absolutely correct. I also stated that it was also caused by my inabilities to handle the car that was track built. Without any track experience or training.

I did do a second gear rolling burnout and when I left off the gas the car went 180 degrees on me. or the time I was doing flybys for a buddies video and it got loose on me, but it helped me through the corner and I was able to control it.

My problem is when it happens and your buddy is less 6 inches off your left side, what do you do?

Ya take it like a man. haha. The srt4 is an amazing car though. After the accident it was running upside down and I had to shut it off. Then when I bought it back, they dropped it off and I started it up and backed it into the backyard.

Most of the damage was cosmetic, the only mechanical damage was lower control arm, and a slightly bent coilover of which the new owner of the CO's just bent it back. The wheel wasn't even bent.

I should have bought just a standard neon and did the srt swap. :(

In regard to wander---
Particularly check toe-in both front AND rear. Not enough makes for wander.
KS

Just got my alignment done and the new adjust links and sway links put in. Huge difference with suspension noise in the back. As for wander, I havent hit the highway yet. Later today I will. Here are my specs. ( I have eibachs)

Are these the after specs? Did you get both? To say hey that one was way out that was the problem.

Did you take that to a shop to have it done? Or do you have access to a rack to do that yourself?
They should have been able to adjust the rear camber. And those rear toe angles are still way off. I'd have made them fix that. I don't care if it's "within range" if you spent money to have them adjust everything, it needs to be perfect IMO.

I had a shop do it.

Wait maybe this is before they fixed it. Because it says, save"before" measurments

That link is always there. That program is kinda weird to use (our rack uses that program at work). There's a procedure you're supposed to follow, but it's pointless because once you run through the steps to compensate the sensors, and measure the caster you get all the measurements on one screen and you can change them all without having to complete the whole procedure in the program. That sounds kinda screwy I know, but it would make sense if you knew how the software works.

I'm not sure why they took screen shots instead of printing the measurements on paper.
