not happy with ride over 70mph any answers

So when I'm driving on the highway the car feels sooo loose and the car feels like it wants to get blown over from left to ride and the steering wheel wants to follow. Its annoying that I have to fight with the car to keep it strait. My front end suspension has all been replaced with new parts except the sway bar links but I dont believe that would make a difference would it? I am getting the rear adjust links replaced Fri with an alignment ill help. I'm just pissed off this car feels like a damn boat even with eibachs and new front struts and suspension

so do bad sway links make this happen?

can the rear end (bad adjust rear links and sway links) make it feel loose on the highway?

do bad rear shocks make it feel loose? ( I dont think mine are bad)

if anyone knows of a thread that explains this, please post
 
Might be the front grill. :gr_devil: You know, wind...airflow issues...

I will be having a lot of pics of the blown block on my car once I get it out. It will pretty much be a warning thread. "Don't do THIS!"
 
What kind of tires do you have? Some are very sensitive to the grooves in the road and want to follow them. That's called tramlinning.

I have Goodyear F1 GSD3's in the front and Goodyear F1 All Season's in the back. They were balanced recently.
 
What year is your car? My 2000 does the exact same thing and i'm sick of it. You have to DRIVE the car all the time. The wife even commented on it after her first highway trip in car. I noticed it right off the bat first time driving it. I have taken off the conti front tires that car came with because they where out of round and only 40% tread. Got another pair of nice used conti's different model with 85% tread and car does same thing. I think it has to do with the rack and the variable assist steering. My rack makes the slight rack groan. I have this problem in my MK8 because the PS pump EVO valve is stuck in the default of full power assist all the time which makes it twichy on highway. I think the LS rack is doing the same thing full power assist all the time. I want the LS to be a driving dream not a white knuckle driver.

YEah, I think your on to something. I have no idea how to check this. but yeah It feels like the damn power steering is helping too much!
 
Oh its offfical term is "wander" Also did you ever replace your rack and do you have rack groan? I was thinking of putting eibach's in to lower car so it wouldn't wander so much but i guess thats out now from your input.

the eibachs havent helped much if at all. I have no rack groan. I have not replaced it. I was thinking to myself, maybe shutting power steering off all together would be better? lol I have to drive to Wisco in two weeks and I'm really looking for a solution before I leave.

You shouldn't mix tread patterns, especially ones as different as those two. That could be causing your problems. Each end is getting different road information and sending it to you. The LS suspension is very sensitive.

True, but even at that, the car SHOULD NOT be wandering around the road like it is. I had some 16's on with new tires when I bought the car and it was just as bad if not worse
 
I noticed a huge improvement between 235/50/17 and 245/45/17.

Between stock and lowered I noticed no change in steering sensitivity, just a little less roll.

Recently went back to 235's because i needed new tires and now these things are crap. Original 2000 LS rubber and they don't work so well :(

But still doesn't sound as bad as yours, my car seems to handle quite well and tight unless I fall into the grooves on the road.

So, new(er) matching 245 tires all around and an alignment. You should be gtg. :)
 
I was up to 115 not long ago and the car was as solid as if I was going 50. The only time I have issues like yours is when there is ice/snow and strong winds.

haha!! Reminds me of the time that I was going 140, answered my phone and drove with one hand on the wheel. :cool:

Me old srt 4, had so much fwhp that it took everything you had to keep it straight at any speed under throttle. :eek:

Recently, I complained to the tire guy that my car vibrates too much at 90. He told me to get new tires, and that he had some rated for 135. I laughed and said that wont work! :p
 
The fastest I've had my LS is 104. I just don't trust tires.

That's about what I cruise at in the Mark VIII. (assuming it works)

my car used to do this and then after all new tie rod ends up front and an alignment, it is back to normal. it still wanders a little on uneven ground, but being lowered and having slightly wider tires are the contributors. any play in your hub/ bearing assembly will also make it worse.

you should check the tie rod ends as soon as possible as it can be a pantload of excitement if one breaks while you're driving along. they can also make driving in the rain very unnerving.
