Its really odd, or I'm really stupid and possibly both. My car is Idling real high at all different times. I was coming home last night, cruising down the highway at 60 mph and noticed the car was pulling me. I popped it into neutral and it went up to about 2500 rpms. As I got off the highway and it downshifted, I put it back in neutral and I was around 1800 rpms. It started doing this about a month ago, but was intermittent. It seamed after it wormed up it would go away and then it didn't do it at all for a while. But now its back.

One last note: At first when it started to happen, I would hit the brake and it was like the trans went into neutral for just a second and the rpms would go up 400 rpms and then drop back down, but it was still running faster than it should have been.

Thanks for any ideas.

when was the last time you had a transmission flush? if recent, then it COULD be the torque converter. it is hard to tell. do the easy stuff first. try to clean your MAF and throttle body.

I had the tranny rebuilt about a year ago, with a new TC and guts. I'm guessing that it's more like the MAF or computer related, just guessing though.

was your IAC valve replaced recently? could very well be either that or possibly the throttle position sensor. if anything... just reflash your PCM.

Yea!! Poor Gen 1s:rolleyes: But I am OBDII:) It's time for the new IAC. Where is the best place to get it and how much should it be?

Thanks

obd II or not your iac might as well be up your cars ass poor poor gen 1.
just get a motorcraft, it should be around (roughlly) $50, also get the iac gasket (check cuz it should come with the new one) and the throttle body gasket (ive heard removing the TB makes it easier)

Rock auto lists them but when i ordered mine they were outta stock. Should have some now though. My hunting idle has vanished but will change the iac next time the problem appears! lol.
