Well its been awhile and I just completed installing a new heater core and blend door motor on my 95 LSC. I change the blend door motor becasue I was there and didn't want to go back in. I am so glad that I don't have a foggy window or wet floor anymore, however my heat coming out of the vents is rather cool at the highest temp. Could I have a sticky stat or air in the system? Can someone give me a little insight on this.

100% bet its air in the system. I just covered the cooling system in my engines class, im getting ready to take the ASE test for it.

Blend Door malfuncation

Well, after replacing the heater core, new blend door motor and getting all of the air out of the system. When I puse heat on on the etac like floor/defrost I get heat coming out floor and cold air out of the defrost. When I push PNL/Floor i get heat out of the floor and cold air out of the panel. This is a brand new blend door motor which i decided to replace becasue I was there. I ran the diagnostics on the etac and I got a 02 code and check the code and it said the I had a blend door malfunction. So my question and concern is this a motor or a door problem?

i guess this would prove the old saying. if it isnt broke dont screw with it. so what is this blend door. i thought it was only a gen 2 thing so i never looked into it. is it a common problem on a gen 1 ?

No, only Gen 2's. He has other issues somewhere else and I think it's in the vacuum lines being crossed somehow.

I am pretty sure that everything got connected when re-installed. Because each button on the etac is switching like it is supposed to. In hindsight I should have left the old one installed because it was working.hmmmmm.

Since the question came up about crossing the vaccum lines I check that all colors were lined up, also I don't think you can cross the plug up becasue they are molded and only go on one-way.

They may not be crossed but to me it still sounds like something doing with the vacuum in some way but I could be way off. If you push "floor", you should get floor and heat.

I have a 96 etac that I recently purchased and was working fine before I tore into the dash. I am sure that I am going to have to go back in just when I thought I looking so good but if I have to I have to. Is there a diagram on where the vaccums lines go to the that plug inside the dash and to the back of the etac?

Actually Gen I's can have actual blend door motor problems. The plastic gears inside strip after years of use. Some speculate it is because Ford used grease on them.

Yes but the likeliness of it is very slim, especially compared to the Gen2. With the EATC units being swapped out, I think that's where the problem is on this one but again, it could be a blend door. It would be the first Gen1 that I have heard of personally if it is the blend door.

I replaced one on my 96 5 years ago and just sold a spare unit I had to a member of another board who had the same problem recently. If he has already replaced it then it is most likely not the problem (unless it was a used unit), but it can and does happen on Gen I's. You will get an anoying clicking noise coming from behind the dash message display when it is bad.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll know what that sound is if I ever hear it. I'll go snag the one out of the 93 but so far, I have never heard the noise. Hope I never do.
