I'm going to vent here. This is the 3rd fan motor and 3rd fan pump installed on my 01V6 since new. The entire system was replaced last July, fortunately its under Ford warranty, (what ever that's worth), less than 8k miles and the pump is whining like a starved animal, again. Nothing wrong with the fluid level, except that I find the fluid is very hot. The pump seems to work ok when the engine is cool, but when it warms up, the whining starts.

Convert to the electric fan. It's a simple two step process.

1. Sell gen I LS.
2. Buy gen II LS.

Electric fan and shroud from an '03 V6 $125 - PM me if it might work

124k miles on my 02 V8, and the entire cooling system is still OEM stock original parts. (with the exception of the degas bottle that is).

I had to have my hydraulic fan pump and elec fan replaced on my 02 around the same time last year. The place I took it to said they were having a hard time syncing up the fan due to the program I had flashed on the PCM. I flashed it back to stock and have been runny stock since.
I really want to put the program back on the car (gas mileage sucks!) but I need to have the whole VCG and coil/spark plugs done. It's running like sh!t!

If you had a ford/linc/mercury dealer replace that for you in July last year and 8k ago..bring it back to the dealer. 12months 12000mile warranty on parts and labor.

^^^ This right here!
My dealership hates seeing me whenever I have an overheating problem!!!;)

You're confusing me again. Do you have a hydraulic fan or an electric fan? It seems unlikely that you would have both.

On the v8, there is a reservoir for the power steering and fan pump.. I believe there is two fans. One being electric and one being hydraulic? Don't quote me on that because I have never looked into it..

There is only the hydraulic fan. The hydraulic pump spins the fan. The 1st gen LSes didn't have an electric cooling fan.

One thing to look at - the plastic reservoir bottle for the Fan fluid can crack over time (due to the engine heat) - just like the degass bottle - and therefore is cannot hold enough pressure....

Hi All,

Like I said before, the entire system was replaced last year by the dealer, even the fluid tank, all shiny and new. So this morning I dropped it off at the dealer and said fix it. I took it to a dealer I trust this time. The last one hated me and the car by the time we were done, took them 3 weeks to fix it. Kept calling me saying the car was fixed, I would show up and the pump would scream like a monkey on steroids, so I gave it back 3 separate times. Then they dented my door in the shop, had another week of body repair. Yep a Ford Dealer with a bad reputation..........

Can't figure this thing out.....

dealer says

Prognosis of dealer, bad main shaft on pump. will replace for free. Sounds good to me.

You should post that dealers name here so others in the Atlanta area can maybe check them out as well. And tell your service writer that you will recommend them and they might look forward you coming in!!
We are not all bad.....all the time. LOL

If we're going to start listing good dealers, then add Robinson Brothers Lincoln Mercury Volvo in Mobile Alabama to the list.

I think we should have a good dealer/bad dealer section.....no??
I mean sometimes you are stuck and do need the dealer to do what is necessary to get back on the road.
LVC could be the GBDB (good/bad dealer bureau) you know like the BBB.

I guess I got too much time on my hands right now!!!
