No mufflers

The mufflers have nothing to do with the amount of emissions the car... emits. Now if you just remove the mufflers, the sniffer won't fit in the old pipe because there's a bend there, so you'd have to replace the mufflers with pipe (which is a good idea anyway, otherwise exhaust can get up in the trunk and interior of the car.)

Now running around with no mufflers is likely not legal in your area, so they still might not pass you for that reason. But the emissions should be OK. I'd recommend giving them a call and ask.

Will a Mark VIII pass the sniffer with no mufflers?

i run with no mufflers just tips and a high flow cat...no problems with inspection stations or cops.

Unity, those would look like total butt if the car wasn't slammed.

gangsta, you get lucky with those cops! Small town? Those are like, 4" tips. They have got to beller. Then again you have stock exhaust right? Maybe not. I have custom from manifolds back 2.5 w 2.5 tips, I can't idle and not wake up the neighbors.

In california it will fail the visual, but I know a smog guy that doesn't care if I have mufflers or not so it passes with no problem...

I took my rear mufflers off and ran 3" wide 24" long tips. I had a muffler shop weld em on for me. No problem at all! It sounds awesome and it doesn't effect emissions at all.

Those look good Turborich.

Any side shots?

I'd like to find some nice slashcut ovals with a rounded lip but not a goddy- rounded lip.

Yeah I wanted some oval tips as well but got tired of searching so I picked these up. I had them welded on 100% level, I should have had the fronts a little lower though I think. Even though they are level, they don't look that way because of the way the bottom of the fender is. Anyways, Thanks for the compliment!!! Here is a pic of them. They look better when you are looking at them while standing or nealing, not on the floor such as this pic. LOL:p

Wisconsin just plugs in OBDII cars and your off if your computer is clean. I've passed with the glass packs on my MarkVIII and my 98F150.

I also passed on the rollers with my MarkVII without mufflers and its plenty loud with 2 1/2 cat back no mufflers.

Is this a tip thread or what?

Did you guys lose any low end torque with no mufflers? Gain any top end?

I don't think anyone's dyno tested it.. And an ass-dyno isn't accurate enough to actually notice a difference. If there is a difference it's not much of one either way (other than in volume.)

lol relatively a small town but no headers on the car the rest of the exhaust i had redone with high flow cats and a resonator... it is loud but not overly loud. I dont drive the car much but when i do i get followed not for the exhaust just the way the car looks. The exhaust cutouts came stock on my car and the tips are 4 inch...almost went with 5 inch tips but figured that would go to far.

I think I found the perfect set of tips for the mark viii today. Wasn't looking, just started staring at the porsche in front of me on lunch hour. Curvature and everything looks PERFECT. Going to do some research.

Good luck getting those tips from a Porsche dealer, they probably cost a few hundred dollars or more...

You got that right. I stumbled across some while looking for tips for my LSE and was amazed as to what they cost.

OH :q:q:q:q!!! I KNEW I FORGOT SOMETHING!

you know what else i forgot to do? bolt the rest of it back on :) it ends after the first u clamp :)

This makes the car extremely loud, do it at your own risk haha, I know that it is jsut a simple bolt on thing but its a pain in the ass.
Also to give you an example of how loud it is, Ive been pulled over twice for the noise, but not been given a ticket cause both cops gave me props for bieng "unique" haha

***IF YOU DO THIS YOU MUST PUT ON TIPS THAT POINT DOWNWARD, IF YOU DO NOT THE EXHAUST FUMES WILL TRAVEL UP INTO YOUR INTERIOR!!!*** trust me i learned the hardway

I put some 24" long 3" diameter stainless tips where my mufflers used to be on the 96 and it went from dead quiet to obnoxious. I love it!!! :D

Any change in performance?
