No heat from heater.?

Saturday night i tried to heat my car, yet it only blew cool air... any suggestions to what the problem may be... My car was at normal driving temp..
I tried it again today, still no heat..
 
No heat problems on the LS are usually due to air trapped in the cooling system. This is usually due to a leak, unless you recently had work done and didn't correctly bleed the cooling system.
What year is your car? Gen I cars also have another possibility (stuck bypass door), but I haven't heard of this actually happening.

Sorry, sorry, I couldn't resist! I haven’t heard too much about LS’s having this problem? I’m no mechanic but what joegr is saying sound like it could be a viable reason for your issue. Keep us posted!
 
Well i had some freon added to my system about two months ago and replaced the air cabin filter...I have a 2000 LS.
 
No heat is usually a failed thermostat. They fail in the open position so you won't get any cabin heat.

If the thermostat was stuck then wouldn't you car run at a different temperature?

Hey Joegr, if you have air trapped in your cooling system would it not overheat? Anyway to test that blend door problem?

1. Yes.

2. LSes don't have blend doors. Your gen I LS does have a "cold air bypass" door. (There is a big difference between the "blend" and "bypass.") Anyway, you can test for most problems by doing the self-test from the climate control.
"turn the key "on," simultaneously press and release the OFF and FLOOR buttons, then immediately press and release the AUTO button."
If you get all "8"s at the end, then there is no problem detected. If you get one or more four digit failures codes, let us know what they are.
 
Joegr, I've had that same problem over the past few days. I was going to wait until the weekend and dive in, but I figured I'd try the test after reading your post.

I got codes "13 45" to flash on the display.
 
I can't find anything on 1345 that makes sense. 1265 is the code for bypass door failure (valid for gen I only, it's a false code on gen II).
 
I replaced my dash two weeks ago. I forgot to plug in the cigarette lighter. I wonder what else I missed. I'll pull out my head unit and dig around.

Yes, it can be replaced or fixed. You will likely be spending hundreds, not thousands.

The problem will either be the door servo, the wiring, the climate control head, or the door is mechanically stuck (that should give a different code, but who knows).

I have the troubleshooting procedure for gen II (2003-2006), but not for gen I. Maybe someone else can help.
 
Manual says

There are many steps in the manual to pinpoint your problem. Basically it says to go back and check all the connectors to see if you might have damaged some pins or connectors.
 
So if I get the code of all 8's, is the problem my DCCV or the control unit?
 
try this

on the v6 there is a DCCV power connector attached to the fan shroud in front of the engine. Disconnect this with the engine running. The hot coolant flow will be diverted to the heater core and you should get full heat both sides of passenger compartment.

also check the hoses from the DCCV to the heater core, are they hot?????

I'm seeing alot of people writing about no heat, we are just getting into cool weather and the DCCV's have been inactive all summer so they maybe gummed up inside from gunk, the rubber seals may also be sticking together.

With the ignition on, engine not running, heat turned on, I disconnected the DCCV connector and gently plugged and unpluged till I could hear the clicking of the solenoids, there are two. This might free them up.....
 
No matter what I set my temperature at, my A/C always blows ice cold air. Should I just change my DCCV?
 
unplug DCCV

unplug the DCCV (turn power off), this will open the valves for full heat to the heater core. Make sure engine temp is normal mid range. Check the hoses going to the heater core from the DCCV are they hot? if you get full heat from both vents then the coolant is getting thru the heater core. If you don't get full heat then you should bleed the system in case there is air trapped in the core, try for full heat again. if you're good with an DVOM meter you can check the solenoid resistance in the DCCV. Good = 10-23 ohms.
 
does anyone have a picture, or a diagram of what the under dash heater parts are and where they are located? so i can check the connections and try and troubleshoot. Thanks to joegr I know what is wrong, but i have no idea of where it is, or how to troubleshoot. any help will be really appreciated. Thanks
 
How do you do the test for the system for an 01? I know you have to push a couple buttons, but can't remember what they are.
 
system test

press off and panel push buttons at the same time, release then press auto. The system will do the self tests.
