Wherever I run out of gas
Got a X-cal tune and all seemed good, then I put in a K&N cold air. Now I have a spark knock once the car heats up and I put a load on the engine. Its about a half second knock but its pretty loud. I contacted the tuner (a reputable guy on here) and he said to take a degree of timing out at the RPM it does it. Well it knocks all over the RPM range when I load the engine so that wont work. Driving then take foot off gas then put it back heavy on the gas......going up a hill and give it more gas......giving it gas coming out of a turn, these are all ways to make it knock. Any suggestions would help or if you guys think its really no big deal for the knock, let me know. Otherwise I might get another tune from a diff. person on this sight. BTW I am having a hard time getting a hold of the tuner so thats why I have posted this here.

You can take out 2 degrees where it shows "global spark" on the tuner. I had the same problem and that fixed it.

I have noticed a ticking noise now. Not loud, but the pattern gets faster directly with the rpms increasing. I was thinking exhaust manifold leak too.

I'll have to try that timing adjustment on the tuner. I haven't messed with any of the end user options yet.

So, I went out to the parking lot to have a listen. it starts right on start up. stays ticking. But after listening closesly it's all on the top.

Injectors need cleaning maybe? Sounds like it's coming from the injectors, and I hear it in more than one place on top.

Would a half can of seafoam in the gas tank clear that up? Or do I need to buy a dedicated injector cleaner?

detonation can and will cause mechanical problems with your car.

At the first sign of "ping or knock".. RESOLVE the issue.

Running around "making it knock" is only hurting your motor.

#1 pull some timing, either globally or by RPM range until you get the motor to NOT KNOCK.

you MIGHT get lucky and haven't "hurt" something yet... but if you proceed down the same path of "punching the car", while it has ping issues. you WILL hurt something.

Does it still ping/knock?
if so, forget seafoam until you address the pinging.

make it stop pinging, then worry about low buck cheap fixes.

Take out 2-3 degree's of global timing FIRST....
Then worry about "fixes that come in a bottle".

I'd say it's not related to ignition timing if it happens at idle in park.

that is the "tick" he's investigating, not the knock that happens at WOT, leaving corners ect that he described in his original post.

I'm hoping he hasn't already "nicked a valve" out duplicating the issue.

for clarity/conversations sake

IMHO you dont need a "another tune" from "someone else".
You just need to "adjust" your tune, which is why they call it "tuning" and not baking a cake.

sometimes you have to adjust the mix, rather than just pouring the contents out of the box.

I ended up calling him at 11:45pm with a question and he actually called me back 2min. later.

Co-incidence? (lol)

might want to be a little more "phone tactful", and consider any "time differences" between you and the person you are calling.

For the little amount of money an SCT dealer actually "MAKES" selling this stuff {it would amaze you) I wouldnt' expect them to be "on call" 24/7.

And if you called my phone at 11:45 PM, that'd probably be the last time you had any contact with me.. for damned sure.

OP, has been helped, Pektel is the ticking at idle and sounds like old bad oil in the crank case to me.... but thats the seafoam. Too many peoples issues in one thread I think

Just remembered I have like 3500 miles since the last oil change. And I'm down to a 1/4 tank of gas. sounds like seafoam time!

my bad.. didn't catch there was two different issues/posters happening.

drop half a can in your oil and the other half, suck thorugh what would be you PCV line. Let me know when you're ready and I'll walk you through it. Easy to do, easier to screw up.

I'd get two cans.. half of one in the oil..and the other 1.5 cans sucked into the intake...
I've put two full cans into the intake with no ill effects other than a really really big smoke cloud.

ALSO... when you suck it into the intake.. do it with a "COLD MOTOR" so the seafoam doesnt "evaporate" in the manifold rather than soaking into the crud your trying to clean.

hope this helps
