It seems like everytime my savings account adds another number, something goes wrong. Well I added brand new tires last time, and now the struts! 1400 for OEM sports performance struts all the way around. Im at around 67,000 miles on it, but the previous owner left me with 2 bent rims and damaged suspension. My job is to fix Abe my LS back to factory standards first before I do anything nice.

1400 sound right to you guys? I got quoted at Firestone, since it's the only store here in Fort Campbell, KY that i've had a good experience with.

I paid $220 for both my rear shocks from Max (and that includes shipping to Canada) Im assuming the front are around that price as well. so thats roughly 400 for the shocks. I wouldnt pay a $1000 for them to be installed but that may be the going rate??

I got all 4 sport shocks from Max for $398.44 shipped. I would never pay that much even if it includes install. I did mine on my own and put on Eibach springs.

IIRC its a 4 hour job by the book and I think I got sensatracs for 80 a piece. That seems REALLY high to me.

It's a bit late now, I already paid and had them order the parts from the Ford warehouse. :( Lesson learned though, an expensive one at that. I've been told it is a PITA to do struts. I have never done it, but im a fast learner, and im pretty good with my hands.

Go get your money back!!!! I did mine at pepboys for 725 including Monroe shocks. I recently bought OEM shocks to install with eibachs. The cheapest I was quoted for installation was 200 and a performance shop quoted me 400. 1000 is way too much, that's like dealer price. Get your money back right now man! Unless you're ok paying that much

4 hours... Fu<k that. $250/hr is BS. I would go and at least try to get your money back.

$1000 is too high, $1400 is like somebody grabbing a jar of sand instead of a bottle of lube

I had about $500 in parts & tools to change mine out.

Hell I'll drive to him with my ratchet, sockets, and spring compressors for $250 an hour. He's only 7.5 hours away from me.

im feelin like a thread leprauchan today :)
in light of op topic on car repairs. i replaced my shocks with a new set of oem and springs with 1" eibach lowering kit, and my ride is still feeling alot the bumps in the road more so than i think it should be. Ive driven on the same road with my buddies 05 ls and there is a world of difference between the two.
is this because of the generation/lowering. or do you think something like the bushings or would struts have any play in a dead thud every time i hit a crack in the road?

Its been annoying me since he got his a few months ago, i figured it was cause the lowering..but im really thinking its not now. when i had the stuff put in last summer my mechanic said everything else looked good...but we all know how that goes.

Did you use the base or sport "shocks"? I have sport "shocks" and Eibahcs on mine. I would say it rides a little rougher than stock, but not much. If you're hearing a clunk check the front swaybar bushings and possibly wheel studs. The clunk I heard over big bumps was not the bushings, but a broken wheel stud. I have no clue how it didn't come out after it broke.

Considering the LS doesn't have struts....... The LS has coil-over shocks. The only "specialty" tool need is a spring compressor. It took a friend and me just over an hour to change all 4 shocks.

i had w wicked thud type of knocking on every little bump i hit, bushings fix my problem

Well dang it. I do feel a bit stupid, and im sure I could've figured out how to do it myself with spring compressors, and I did purchase a factory service manual on Ebay, with a small pack of mechanics toolset by Craftsmen, I think I could've gotten it done on a nice Saturday afternoon. Next time though, i'll definitely do them myself. :( I just didn't want to risk not putting them on right, and the ride get worse.

you could have just ordered the quick struts they have them on amazon for like $70 each..Much easier to put on than regular struts..

not really seeing how a strut isnt the right part, a shock however would be very easy

I agree with most everyone here that you could have done it yourself and saved a ton of money. It's not as tough as people tend to think before trying it. Several of us initially questioned it, but got it done with no problems. However, you don't need to keep reading that at this point.

If it's any consolation, you have a warranty on the complete install and won't have to tear it apart if something's not right (of course, you still have the hassle of taking it back to them).

Damn dude that is way too much!!! I got all four oem shocks for under $400 & had a shop install them for $150!...if you like giving money away please throw some my way :)

thanks, and ya i dio have the sport shocks aswell. i love how they respond to sharp corners at high(er) than average speeds, and yes they are a rougher/firmer ride when i hit them rollercoaster spots on the road. I had a feeling about the bushing from reading older threads but i figured i would ask about it b4 i go ordering more stuff. Dam MN winters blew up the roads this year :( time to get my silverado with the z71 package. my new dream vehicle to get, for sure keeping the ls for a summer vehicle though once i can even afford one of thoes badboyz on top of the money pit the ls is.
I'm sure its been covered a million times, but ill admit im lazy and its st.patties day so im already slightly buzzed and thinking is hard. anyone have a suggestion on a brand to go with when replacing them? or should i just go OEM?
:beer

guess you dont know what quick struts are then ....I was just telling the op he could have got those because they are easy to put on and you dont need a spring compressor since thats the hardest part of putting them on..I dont really get why you are arguing with me about this i was just trying to help the op out and they are cheaper than the regular struts too..And list price on them is $185
So just google quick struts and it will tell you all about them..lol

Well from now on, i'll definitely consult on the forum for a 2nd opinion before I go make any crazy decisions again. :( Lesson learned. Though I am not totally discouraged by my decision, as Tru-Blu said, I will be having Firestone install them, warranty for their work, as well as a peace of mind knowing that a professional installed them. and if anything does mess up with them i'll know where to take it. There's a Firestone where ever I go.

The photo in the link is not of hardware for an LS. What's shown is a generic-type shock and a strut cartridge. Neither of these are used on an LS. As commented above, THERE ARE NO STRUTS used on the LS.
