had the car towed to the local ford dealership (Mike Bass Ford in Sheffield, OH if any of you actually care)

due to the stupidity of the previous owner (failed to change at least the oil filter after 06, probably oil as well, the motor was down 4 quarts of oil when i picker her up. did the oil change with mobil 1 oil and filter. then motor starting knocking.
bad.
low oil pressure light went on and the motor starting running
I had it less than 2 months and ended up having a rod or main bearing fail.

of course, buying a used car at a wholesale lot with no warranty offered sucks.

but its getting a Ford remanned motor (3.0 V6) for 4200 and about 2000 in labor

I am also getting the shocks/struts done and may throw the eibachs on as well.

all in all... a car a paid just under 6k for with 88k miles on it (now has 90,230) is about to get 6k put into it...

makes sense huh?

sorry just ranting...
like everyone else...

and to think i almost bought an aveo instead of a new motor

That would have been a HUGE mistake. I had a rental one for 3 days a few weeks ago. Dudes on Harley's passing me almost blew me out of my lane! I didn't know they still made cars with crank windows! I had to turn off the air to merge on the freeway! The 0-60 time is measured in minutes!

that sounds expensive for remanufactured. my engine (bottom end) was replaced under warranty. It got a new bottom end with the date of manufacture tag right on the front of the block; July '06. The dealer billed Ford $6000 total.
granted you have the V6 which could account for the difference. But I would explore other options. Even a junkyard motor would be a ton cheaper, and also come with a warranty.

ive been exploring other options for the past 2 weeks and cant afford to miss anymore work.

my aveo 5 spd no air power nothing and no radio test drive lasted 5 minutes tops.

pulled off the lot went a mile or so down the street and turned around.

the LS with a blown motor was still faster than this POS.

your bottom end was replaced with labor for 6k.

i am getting a fully dress (sans accesories) remanned engine...
block, heads, timing cover, valve covers, manifolds, etc
plus labor for 6200

3 yr 100k mile warranty...

i wasnt too pleased with the J/Y offering...

prices were still high for anything with less than 100k on the clock.

and if im going to spend 6grand i might else well get something brand new instead of some 81k mile motor from a car that hit a tree and COULD have engine damage.

plus with the warranty on the used engines they require ALOT of :q:q:q:q to be replaced. i found a motor with 43k on it (keep in mind i have a 2000 v6 so only the 00 motor fits without modification) with a 2 year parts/labor warranty for 1895 shipped.
but parts and labor on the install (at 50/hr) came to just over 2grand.

so 4 thousand for a used motor from a place that may or may not back the warranty just isnt worth it.

plus fords throwing in a tranny flush for free :)

last one was done at 50k and i might as well do it now and get it out of the way.

f that noise. 6200$....cars totalled if you ask me!

could spend 6200$ so many other ways lol. ill be honest, you paid 6000$ for the car. if it was a loan, why? are you paying the 6200$ for this engine in cash or on your credit card?

If the car is paid for, id honestly say screw the motor. or atleast screw 6200$ for a motor. probably be able to find a one on ebay or at a yard with a warrenty for under 1000$

buy the motor, take it to them if you cant put it in. youd spend 3000$ rather then 6200$. its a v6 LS and by the looks of it a 2000. its worth nothing, your paying 12,200$ for a car worth around 3000$ in todays world.

this.

You are putting a ton of money in to what you already overpaid for.

check Engines Direct

I just bought a motor for my 2000 Lincoln LS V8, Ford tried to rip me a new one, they told me the same thing 4200 + 2000 in labor, F- them and F-that. I got a remanufactured engine from the place Ford gets theirs Engines Direct for $3000, and paid my mechanic $800 to install, and my baby is back. Check on E-bay, F- Ford, unless you want to pay double?

I would sell your LS as a parts car and buy a different LS.

for $6k you could but a 00 newer V8, and you would have a parts car to raplace almost everything else that could break

i'm just saying, its a lot of money, make sure you spend it wisely

Get the aveo and drop in a cobalt SS motor. sounds like a whole lot of fun to me.

Ouch! He's in a rough spot, as it sounds like he already gave the dealership the green light on the 6k engine swap.

I guess overall if he ends up happy, everything else may not matter but I agree with others that there might be a better way to use that money towards a better car.

Imagine if you will the possibility that existing car actually hit something due to the blown motor (distraction from watching it go, debris on road, etc). It may be enough to total the ride, and insurance gives you hopefully a good chunk of that 6k purchase back.

Now I'm not suggesting anything here, but just for the sake of conversation......

yeah the last owner on my car f*cked up the engine so I needed a new one after 1-2months after I initially bought it but at least I had an aftermarket warrenty...plus I got a neweer engine (currently at 71k miles). Thx to that smoker too my sound system was sounding like crap with the tar buildup so I decided to start getting a sound system in :-D

they pulled the ol;d motor out today...

interesting how the entire assembly comes out as one unit [engine, trans, radiator core/support, suspension, etc]

there was so much sludge in the engine we're surprised it still runs.

oh and i got a free loaner from the dealer... 07 taurus sel. leather, v6, slow as :q:q:q:q...

engine should be here wed/thurs of next week.

That's also how it's installed. Now you know why the 4.6L won't fit (from an assembly standpoint) and there's no trans dipstick.

paying that much is f-ing stupid. go to car-parts.com and search your car for an engine. youll find motors with different mileage for $1400 tops most likely in your town and they come with a warranty. ive got numerous motors, transmissions and body parts for my cars and friends cars. have that installed at a shop and save a s-h-i-t ton of cash. dont waste your money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
