New member with pictures of manual swap!

Hey whats up my fellow mark8 owners! I have been lurking around theses forums for a little while now picking up valuable info about these cars. My buddys and I are swapping a t-45 into a 93 mark8. Nice, but what a nightmare! All that wiring and fabbing would make a herion addict outta' me. I was planning a big bore engine buildup with a possible stick upgrade myself...

Trust me it is. The hardest part IMO is the extension box. Luckily we got one free from supercoupe performance, but it still needed a fair amount of modification. (ours was a prototype) You need a good amount of fabrication skills and ingenuity. The clutch pedal mount is the next hardest, thankfully we are running a cable clutch instead of a hydraulic mess.

94m5 should be able to help you out, he has the first (and as far as I know only) 5spd Mark VIII in existence.

Looks good but I have a few questions/comments......


What are you doing with the PCM? There isn't room under there to wedge ANY type of pedal assy up there and keep it in the same place. I had to make an extension to relocate it under the drivers seat. Looking back I wish I would have made it longer and mounted it in the trunk.

I think your going to have a problem with the length of the shifter extension. Just by looking at it, your not gonna have enough length to get it through the hole in the console. I ran in to this same problem whan fabbing up my extension. (just commenting on it, you'll have to see for yourself.)


What Flywheel are you using? Please tell me a billet steel, or at least a nodular iron unit. I HAD an aluminum unit, but could'nt get it to launch for :q:q:q:q. The added inertia REALLY helps out getting these things moving. I'm gonna try an aluminum unit on my 95 once the T56 is in due to the 4.10's. As it'l be easier to get moving.

I would like to see some pictures showing how you ran that cable clutch. I was considering it, but went with the hydraulics because I can make the lines myself.


All in all, it's looking ok. I posted some pictures for you to look at to give you some ideas of what to do.

Ah, the PCM. We are moving it out to a shielded box in the engine compartment. None of us want to extend a 100+ wire harness. With this all we have to do is extend a few small harnesses.

I think the shifter will be fine, it is angled back a few inches. We will see how close it is this weekend.

As far as the flywheel, it is a stock nodular gt unit, as is the clutch and pressure plate. It should be enough to get the car moving.

Well, that answers pretty much all of my questions. I do see something that your gonna need to do. Shorten that Clutch pedal arm. I had to cut mine down by almost 4 inches to get it to fit, and to look right.

That looks like a project from hell. I respect and commend you for getting your hand "dirty" with it.

I will stick with an auto though. If I wanted a rower, I would have gotten something with a manual to begin with.

But as I said. Nice work. Gotta respect the people who do stuff like you to their cars.
