Hi everyone on LVC.

My name is Donovan, and I am a new proud 3rd owner of a 1995 MK8. It's red ext/black leather int, and it is in pretty good shape beside a dent on the driver's side. It only has 128K miles, and the engine only has 50K. Crazy thing is that everything works on the car, even the power antenna :). The air ride doesn't sink overnight, and works like it should. However the compressor is a little loud. I guessing that is from the mounts going bad. Best of all, I only paid $1200 for it :D. (I will post pics at the bottom).

It does have some minor quirks:

Engine Quirks:
1) The engine does have a slight tapping. It's not really a metal sounding tick, but more a soft, but engine repetitive sound. You can hear it inside the cabin. It's not loud, but it noticeable. It's seems like it's coming from the back of the engine. I was thinking injector because I read (yes I searched the forum :D) that they can be loud. I think the sound is just all of them with harmony with each other.

2) I have a slight vibration from the engine only between 800-1200 rpm under light throttle. It does it in any gear P,R,N,D so it's not trans related. It feels smooth everywhere else in the powerband, but just there I fell that vibration. Could it be maybe belt drag (if there's anything like that) because the pulley system do sqeak when the engine is cold. I was thinking maybe a tuneup was in order.

Transmission Quirks:
2) I am coming from a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SSEI, and the transmission shift was more on the firm side get on the throttle. However, when I gave the Mark WOT, it seem to shift slow & soft. It didn't hold like it was slipping, but it shifted slow. I was looking at videos youtube (I will show the video at the bottom also), and it seems like that how it's supposed to shift, but I just wanted to make sure. If it is, time for a J-Mod soon lol.

2) It seems to be a delay when engaging into reverse. It take literally 3 secs to go into reverse. I was thinking a solenoid. I checked the trans fluid, and it red, and smells sweet (normal). However, I didn't check if it was low after running the engine.

here the video of the WOT Shift I saw on Youtube

Sorry for the long post, I just wanted to get all my info down on one post so I won't clutter up the forum.

Welcome Don Dotta. The slow and lazy shifting is the 4R70W transmission's behavior by nature. There is nothing wrong with the way it is shifting. The JMOD is the best in my opinion and it will eliminate those lazy shift and can prolong the life of the transmission.

Here is a high 13 pass in mine. An absolute night and day difference. I have the JMOD and lots of other goodies.

Thanks for the replies and help guys. I am glad to know they just shift lazy because I was started to get worried. I though it was wierd because my trans fluid is very clean.

I was surprised that the car actually came out that clean because it was very dirty, and the birds really did a job on it lol. I really like this car, I love now have my power sent to my rear wheels. It more fun, more durable, and just plain better.

@Kstromberg

That's exactly how I want my Mark to shift, I used to have a T-Bird back when I was 16, and I remember guys on the forum were telling me about the J-Mod, but I just never got around to doing it.

@Fastmark

Well Tomorrow I am going to try the heatgun and Compressed air trick to see if that works. I'll let you know what happens

Do you guy think that ticking I mention in the first post is the injectors?
How about the slow engagement into reverse?

Also I am going to get some exhaust work done tomorrow. I need opinions on it. I want to get some more sound out the V8 so I wanted to for now just cut the Third cat & resonator off and keep the Stock mufflers on. I wanted to know how this setup would sound. This is just for now though. My future plans is X-pipe and 2.5 true duals all the way back into some quality mufflers.

I'm not sure. I just bought the car this weekend, and didn't get the oil changed yet (though oil life is 78%). I am going to get it changed this week. Can I use the Motorcraft 5W-20 Synthetic blend or go to 5w-30 weight

I've ran royal purple 5w20 since the day I bought it. I religiously change the oil every 4-5000kms or 3k miles in your case!

ok thanks. As far as the ticking noise, like I said it doesn't sound mechanical (valvetrain noise), but it just make the noise with engine revolutions. I was thinking just loud injectors or maybe an exhaust leak.

Oh does anyone know about the delayed reverse shift. Sorry I keep asking about it, but that kind of worries me
