First of all I want to say how I am amazed at the feeling of community you guys have on this site.Obviously you all love your cars,I am proud to now be one of you.Anyway I have purchased a 96 LSC-Toreador red.It has 119,000 miles and is really clean inside and out.One thing that is bothering me is that it has some valve rattle when I first crank it but goes away after 1 to 2 seconds.can I do anything about this or is this normal for a high mileage engine? Also I have a low oil light that keeps coming on but THE CAR IS NOT low on oil and doesnt use oil-where is this sensor located so I can change?Lastly I need a keyless entry pad,the light on mine doesnt come on and the fuses are fine so apparently the pad is out.Anyone got a good one for sale?Thank you for any help you may provide.I look forward to learning more and hopefully being able to contribute. Thanks

Hello and welcome!

The rattle on start up is normal for our engines. About all you can do is to use a good oil filter with the anti drain back valve such as a Motorcraft. You may also want to use a good synthetic oil such as Mobile 1. The noise will not completely go away however it should help. The timming chain tensioners is the cause of the noise. They take a couple of seconds to pump up.

I would hook up a manual oil pressure gauge to check the oil pressure. You don't want to hurt anything! The sending unit is right there by the oil filter. You will see it.

Good luck!

is it a low oil psi or low oil level, the psi sensor is near the filter like turborich said, and that will be a small red oil can light on the dash, these sensors are prone to failure. if its the low oil level (on my 98 it is displayed on the message center, no light) the sensor is in the side of the oil pan (not too common to fail)

Keep a eye on the for sale forms those keypads pop up once and a while.
E-bay has them sometimes.
There are a couple people on the .org site that make a living junking these cars PM me I can give you e-mail addys.

If you have a remote use it...and save your money for future hid bulbs and air ride!

wow thanks for the replies..

:p Yea I did some research and found out about the secondary cam tensioner causing that prelimenary rattle on start up.I did not know that a Motorcraft filter would help so thanks..Anyway the low oil is coming on in the message center and not the idiot light in the dash(thank God).My HID's seem to work fine however I do have the cloudy headlights.I bought a head light cleaning kit produced by a company called Symtec and will post when I have had a chance to use it..heard about it on here of course.Also..do cross drilled and vented rotors come stock on a LSC? Also I have a cold air filter from a company called PRO-FLOW..anyone heard of it?Thanks for any help.I may be a newbie on here but I love her enough to learn quick.

next project....

Ok I just bought her and before I do any upgrades I want to fix everything first.I know the front sway bar endlinks are shot and I have some I am bidding on on E-bay....I just want to know if its a difficult job and if there are any special things or tools I need to know about.Just to let you guys know i have always worked on my own cars and am preety handy.Ive already had the pleasure of a passenger handle replacement..not bad at all!

I just sent you a PM... I have a keyless pad for you.

Oh and Toothpaste works great at cleaning headlight lenses.. I tried this on a set I sold on eBay... Wow.. never knew they could look so clear, fast and easy.... Learned this on one of those TV car shows... Serious they cleaned up nice and did not damage the lenses.

Oh and Dave PM me with what you may need of the car. I have a 94 that I'm parting out. I have the ends you may be needing.... and more.

The front roll bar end links are quite easy. The bit i had difficulty with was getting the old ones out at the roll bar end. That was solved by buying a tuning fork style ball joint splitter.
