Hello all,

I picked up a LS and I figured this is great place to put some time in. Lots of knowledge here.

My car is a 2002 3.9L V8 with automatic, 95K. And with all of the Lincoln problems you'd expect. The dealer took care of the VCG(s), I'm not sure if one or two [or any, knowing dealers]. The clockspring on the airbag. Swaybar bushings.

She's got the drivers side heated seat that doesn't heat. Probably the smashed duct I've been reading about and a few codes.

PO303 and PO316. That's a misfire on 3 and startup. She hesitates around 50mph and slapping the tranny to D4 seems to settle her down.

I've done a few searches and everyone says "coils". So I'm going to start with swapping out coils on all eight. That I know is at least one of my problems. The tech also mentioned the PCM and the crank position sensor. He said it's almost as though there's not enough pressure in the fuel lines. What is everyone's opinion? Start with coils and work your way up?

This car is really a great car, she just needs a little attention that's all.

A few questions. What's the harm with driving her around town with a little hesitation until I fix the coils?

I've seen a write up on the V6 coil swap, any for the V8? Or is it just that simple in and out if you can find the button you can push it.

Is there an easy way to open up the duct on the heated seat? Easy meaning it won't take a couple of hours or will I have to take the seat out? What's the best option for this?

My next question is about quirks. What are the quirks everyone has had with these machines? My fuel door won't open, that to me is just plain funny. Any quirks I should look out for in the coil swap?

I've attatched a picture of my Lincoln next to my Jeep. Luxury next to Get-er-done.

Any info and/or attached links is much appreciated.

FYI its not good to drive the car with a mis-fire. What your doing is sending raw unburnt fuel down to the CAT and making that run hotter and that can lead to CAT failure. Those are not cheap to replace. Also my car is just like yours drivers heater no work but pass does. I'm about to rip seat apart and see if I can solder broken wire. If not new elements.

Welcome!

You'll kill the cats because of elevated temps and stink up the town with the smell of rotten eggs.
My '01 LS V8 stunk to high heaven until I replaced the COPs. Get' em from F* Ford, eBay or RockAuto. There's a tech article on replacing these and an independent mechanic should be able to do it for cheap (I paid ~$80 in labor).

$80 bucks eh? I'll have to find someone around here that might bite on that. I talked to STS and they said it would be about 350 in labor. with the COPs being 65 per. Doing the math that's a descent number.

I figure I'll just swap them out myself. The article seemed like it was descent to do. I'm used to the tight spaces.

I'm just hoping this will take care of the PO303 and PO316 codes.

You can get a set of 8 cops on the aution site for 150 shipped brand new. I bought the set of 6 for my car and they are mint.

Welcome... look into an LSE grille. It'd look real nice on your car.

A LSE Grille? I'll check that out. I have a lot of work coming up at work but I might have to find time to work on this car. I love driving it. I really think they got this one right (except for everything they got wrong of course).

How long of driving does it take if cylinders are misfiring to burnout the CATs?

Good to have you on board!

Love these LS's. White is a great color!
