Is it engine shudder or does the car shudder when you change gears. ( tranny shudder) I could see how those would be confused.

It shudders under light acceleration, for example when i have the cruise set and it hits a hill it will start to shudder, and on occasion it will die under light acceleration when im pulling out of the drive way.

The tranny shifts smooth and was supposedly serviced before i bought it. when i stomp down on it, it will some times bog down and other times take off like a rocket and go through all the gears perfectly fine

i was told that the torque converter was a possibility when i got back to wichita the car has 185000 miles on it the engine is very strong and doesnt burn anything. we thought it was the MAF also because the computer was throwing codes saying the cylinder bank 1 was rich and cylinder bank 2 was lean. i cleaned that and the throttle body and it helped alot. there are also several loud clunking noises that come from the tranny area when i try to force it to stop shuddering.

you have trans shudder for sure. put a bottle of doctor tranny in it from napa, drive it for 500 miles, if the shudder goes away after that, drop the pan, change the filter and drsain the convertor also and refill it with mercon 5

ill try that when the weather gets better here, i was going to change the converter myself and save myself 600 dollars but i will try that to see how it goes. how long do you think it has if its my daily driver?

I would also suspect, IMRC's are possibly clogged up or stuck, Seafoam is in order, if done right it will make a difference, also our cars really like premium fuel, dump a full tank of premium, 93 Oct, and then add a full can of seafoam to the tank.
Welcome to the boards..
Lots of info on here.

Good luck.

Intake Manifold Runner Control

We have 32 Valves and under light load under 3200 RPM we have butterfly valves that will stay closed to assist in generating low end tourqe and when we go WOT (Wide open Throttle) they will open (im sometimes mistaken it may be that they close I forget) you'll feel them kick in, kinda like a quick boost of energy, that being said, sometimes when sitting or babied for a shile the carbon builds and the become stuck or slow to respond, may also have a actuator (vacumm activated) that may be bad as well

Does the car Idle rough? does it idle rough only when cold?

no it doesnt idle rough. i can sit in the drive way and rev the engine and it will sound like nothing is wrong at all. it will only do all this when it is in gear and moving. i did clean the throttle body out and now the butterflys are actually gold it was really bad in there. that cleaning helped alot

The IMRC's are actually plated in between the intake manifold and the Head.. its not connected to the Throttle body. the run the length of the intake on both sides.
You can check function at the back of the block by the firewall, there are two vacumm actuators connected to rods just under the intake.

You can really only clean them if you remove the intake to get to them.

Lots of work to get to it.
Seafoam may help a bit to clean them up especially if you say the TB was extremely dirty.

thanks ill try that also. i think replacing the torque converter will solve a ton of problems, i know its not that difficult i helped my friend replace his on his F150 last summer

Landfill heh, ya know those are actually worth some coin...ugly as sin so I dunno why

Take a can of intake cleaner and check for vac leaks too..very common on our cars

ill try all of this ive got to wait until it warms up a few degrees cuz its snowing right now so ill probably try all this on weds or thurs.

I feel ya, was going to tinker with mine today and vac it out, then I looked on TWC and changed my mind

im really hating the snow with this car because the air ride is bad in the rear so i dont want it dragging through 6 inches of snow. how good are the performance chips from slrmotorsports.com. im looking to get one eventually but not sure on which one.
