New engine in my 2001 LS!

Well here is my story. I had been looking for a lightly used Lincoln LS with the V8 for around 6 months. I finally found one that was in excellent shape and with low miles for a 2001. The car had 75K on the ticker and seemed like it was in great shape. We bought it 3 weeks ago, well last Saturday something in the lower end let go. (terrible knocking and no power and barely running). Well I had it towed to the Local Ford dealership and found out that it needed a new engine. Let me warn you they are not cheap. Well 6 days later she is up and running like a champ and I hope I can enjoy her for a while before I have any other issues...

Looks like it by the exhaust manifolds.

You're a better man than me for putting a new motor in. I woulda torched the fuggin' car first!
 
its a v8 and looks like the premium Lincoln ls and not a sport
 
Yeah it is the V8. I did not get to take pictures of the new engine while it was out of the car. It was still crated up when I went down to take pictures. I thought it was interesting that they remove the entire steering system with the engine. Ford estimates 27 hours to remove and replace the new engine. The only comfort I have is the new engine has a 3yr warranty. The dealership did tell me that they have had very few problems with the LS's especially the V8. So I hope the rest of you have better luck...
 
its much easier to drop the sub frame and eng in most ford vehicles, when i did my oil pan in my markviii i dropped the sub frame and had the pan in my hands in 1 hour (left the eng in the car) it was so easy i have decided any lower end work on tbirds/cougars/markviii's im dropping the sub frame, even for the starter
 
Wow, I honestly don't think I would of spent that much on a new engine especially with how soft the Lincoln LS is right now, I would of gotten a different car or maybe another LS.
 
$4700 is cheap for a brand new engine. Try 11 Gs for a new Benz engine. And that's not even the hand built one, they're more like 18.

If you have problems with your lower ball joints down the road just show those pictures to the dealership.
 
$4700 plus 27 hours of labor. Doesn't that exceed the value of the car? I seriously would have sourced a used one and had a salvageyard install it.
 
The old engine went back to Ford they actually have a $2000 core value. Yes it is a lot of money for a 7 year old car but now I know what I have and we like the car. It has a 1 year old tranny and a new engine. As far as a used engine I would not risk putting a used engine in unless I had some history on the used engine. It would take over 20 hours to put a used one in and one would still have nearly 4k in the used by the time you paid for the labor. I did end up getting a $1000 off of the total from the dealership because I have been a loyal customer.
