I am changing my ballast right now. I have removed the bolts (9 total)and it is still not coming loose. Should I just yank it or is there a step I am missing?

Can't find the last one. I have circled the ones I have removed, which one am I missing?

Thats all of them. It's gotta come off.

Btw, no need to remove the trunk latch.

neon

You got them all. Sometimes the sealer around the bolts will hold it and usually some break off. Nothing a little epoxy won't fix. Also it is easier if you remove the black trim at the ends first. Thanx Bruce

Hey guys. I got the neon light off and here are the problems. The screw holding the ground and mesh wire is rusted(Maybe why the neon wasn't working?). Does it matter if I just break it off and how am i going to attach the new ground? Second the glitch inverter on the right has two white wires and the oem has a green and white/yellowish wire. Does it matter which wire attaches to which side? Lastly, I'm just going to cut the wires and mix them with the new inverter right? In the directions it was talking about measuring the distance which i don't think is necessary.

hopefully the last few questions. In the directions he gave me it says to disconnect the GTO wires. The wires lead into the back plate of the inverter so is there a connector inside or is it supposed to mean cut off? Second is it required to use the old back plate? Couldn't you connect the ground coming off from the trunk lock to the ground that attached to the old inverter since the new inverter has no ground? Right now the grounds look like this
Trunk lock-->Inverter back plate
Inverter-->Trunk
Couldn't you take the wire of the inverter to trunk and attach it like this
Trunk lock-->connector(connecting wire going to the back plate to ground wire on the old ballast)>Trunk
BTW redoing the old ground made the neon come on for a fraction of a second every time i hit the brake or turn on the lights.

It doesn't care where its grounded... as long as its grounded

I'd just use a small piece of sandpaper, like 800-1000 grit and remove the rust and put it back together.. then give it a shot of paint to cover the bare metal

Hmmmmmm...

This thread got me thinking maybe I should take my neon housing out and see if the ground is rusty, clean it up, and see if I can get the neon working again. If not, I'm considering getting one of those long red LED strips like you see on the back of pickup trucks and putting it in where the neon used to be.

I'm pretty certain the grounds from the neon to the ballast won't effect the neon operation. As long as the plug and other ground are connected it should work unless of course the ballast is bad.

Oh neons, neons, neons... Everyone has their opinions about 'em. I too say sand it a bit & spray a little of black over it so it protects it just a tad. In the end, I think all neon fixes are temporary. Sooner or later they bust again & again, some last months, some last years. I'm lucky to have 2 working neons RIGHT NOW. Everytime I turn the lights on @ night I go check the neon because I've had more that weren't working than those that are. :D
