LVC Family, I have a problem you may be able to help me solve.

With this hot Florida summer, upon us, I've noticed my 2004 Lincoln LS sounds like a hoover craft with the fans going after I turn off the car. I lifted the hood to see what was going on. I noticed to fan keep going for a few minutes and than turned off. I also noticed some dried spots of a white/rusty color on the hose that goes from the engine to the radiator right at the top. Although the fans had finally turned off, I could still hear a noise coming fron this sqaure casing unit right next to the radiator hose on the front passenger side. This square casing also had 6 steel tubes coming at the top of it to give a more detailed description. After a few more minutes that too turned off. I guess my question is what is leaking? And what is causing the fans to run? Thanks LVC family.

Holy big letters...

Not sure about the second gen, but I think the aux coolant pump flows coolant after you shut down to continue cooling. As for the fans, I'm not sure since it can't run on my gen 1, but your fan is electric. If your key was still in the on position, this is normal on most cars. If the key was out of the ignition, it may still be normal on that car.

The block you are talking about is the ABS braking system. Sounds like your key was on to have that continue running?

I wouldn't worry about anything leaking if all your levels are fine. I've found your better leaving well enough alone with the LS cooling system. Do not upset the apple cart. If you are not running the A/C and its not that hot outside, and you still hear fans going non stop while you're driving, then you have an issue.

The engine cooling fan (singular) has never run after key-off on either of my gen II LS's. You shouldn't really be able to hear the aux pump. I really doubt that the ABS module would be making any noise with the key off.

I would bet that your coolant outlet pipe has cracked. The one on my 04 did last December. I'm not the only one. At that time, I also discovered that the degas bottle had cracks big enough to be leaking, and that the plastic section of the top radiator hose was starting to crack.
You should fix whatever issues you have before you seriously damage your engine.

Mine also has never kept running once the car is off... And I live where it is 100+ easily during the summer.

The last vehicle I had that did that was a 1988 Ford F-150.

I meant it sounds like he had the key in the on position with the engine off with his description of what's still running (fans and ABS).

I would never be able to hear the coolant flowing that I referred to (and the little electric aux pump) if I had a fan running.

Pressure test your system as well to determine if there's an issue. Where its dry corrosion, perhaps someone already fixed this but just didn't clean the mess. Otherwise, you might just need some new hoses. Of course they're special shapes so they are expensive but a fairly easy fix. Then there's bleeding the air out after... fun.

I replaced my degas bottle due to cracks that were on the underside where you couldn't see them. Thermostat was another fun job thanks to the thread insert pem nut type thing stripping the plastic out because some jack arse at the dealer cranked it too tight.

...

Okay, let me update my statement to say that the fan in either of my LS's has never run if the engine was not running, even with the key in the run position. The only exception to that is if you trigger the Key-On Engine-Off self test with a scan tool, the fan will run for about one second. I live where it gets to 100+ in the summer.

I certainly agree with the pressure test advice.
