 SO, OTHER THAN SOME OVERHEATING PROBLEMS, MY CAR(93 MARK VIII) HAS RUN GREAT, TILL YESTERDAY. SHES GOT 70,000 MILES ON HER, AND SHE DECIDED TO START STUTTERING WHEN SHIFTING. ON TOP OF THAT, JUST AS THE CAR SHIFTS, IT MAKES A SQUEAKY NOISE, IS THAT LIKE A BELT SLIPPING OR SOMETHING? THE SITUATION SEEMS SCARY TO ME, THE LAST TIME I HAD TO REBUILD A XMISSION IT WAS COSTLY, I HEARD OF A TR/MLP SENSOR?, WHERE IS THAT AND HOW DO I CHECK IT, ALSO, THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CABLE THAT MAY BE MISSING A GROMMET?!?!?? WHERE MIGHT I FIND THESE, I'M CROSSING MY FINGERS ON A QUICK FIX, ANY HELP WOULD B NICE. THX.

First turn OFF the caps lock.

This could be a few things not necessarily the trans. Could be misfiring causing the stutter or could be the TC clutch, which usually changing the fluid would fix that. Does it feel like your going over rumble strips on the side of the highway? My belt tensioner went bad and the belt was slipping causing the car not to charge right. Made the car run a little rough mostly noticable on the 1-2 shift where it would stumble.

The missing grommet only applies to the AOD so not an issue for you on an VIII(common though on VIIs and fox stangs and will kill the trans quick if not fixed)

dude, your the man, sry bout the caps, it feels exactly like im going over those strips, interesting, also, it jerks a little while trying to shift, so maybe just replace fluid and belt tensioner?, would the belt be noticably loose whlile parked?

I would do A fluid change with Mercon V first. My belt was not noticably loose with the engine off. I first thought it was an ignition issue but the idler pulley next to the tensioner was going bad to and starting to make noise which got my attention before I got into diagnosing the ignition. I would verify that is your propblem before chaning parts you may not need. Some people have problems with the belt slipping with the shift during higher rpm. You could just need to try a gatorback belt.

Also while the fluid is being changed it is a good idea to do the 1-2 accumulator upgrade. And even the jmod.

Remember don't just change the fluid have it flushed. So guys will do it in their driveway and change the tranny fluid but with out the flush you don't get the fluid out of the TC... Also as stated above use Mercon V...

It is likely that your 1 2 accumulator is shot. Typical for these cars. Cheap $30 part..

You also may have a boot problem with you coil on plugs, they are getting up there in age as well unless you have replaced them.

1-2 accumulator upgrade? not familiar, also whats involved with the jmod?

The pre 98 trans had an accumulator and spring design that was prone to failure. As Mespock said that could be contributing to your problem also. The 98 up parts are cheap and if your dropping the pan to flush the trans it's definately worth the trouble. The jmod is a seperator plate mod. You can firm up the shifts if you want but it will increase the longevity of the trans. I think the TCCOA site has instruction otherwise try google.

cool, will do, i went outside to have a look-see, and noticed that with the belt on, i can rotate the idler pulley with just my hands, something tells me that should not happen, am i right? i know i got lots of questions, but evry x-mission shop around wants my money a little too much for me not to try the somple things first, and I really appreciat all the knowledge.

its a 93 so there are no coil on plugs to worry about, my trans has a broken 1-2 accumulator spring so it shifts into second hard, and when it does i can hear belt squeal too, i have to fix the accumulator, at the same time i'll flush the trans and put in merc 5, they ever have mercon 6 now??? saw it at autozone. i think all you need is new fluid and fliter, drain the torque convertor too, and flush the trans cooler side of the radiator out too. i only have 77k on my 93, so you shouldnt have to worry, it just needs some love, i'm sure its far from being in need of a rebuild.
