My driver's door opens from the handle on the outside of the car but not from the handle on the inside door handle. I have to put the window down and open the door from the outside handle to get out. I took off the interior door panel today and saw that there is a cable instead a rod that might have been bent. Do I replace this cable mechanism or is there something else?

this happend to me and it was the handle itself, the part that connected the cable to the handle broke. i had to buy a new handle. $58 shipped from parts.com. part number yw4z5421819aa

Most likely the handle. Tell us, does your handle look like the first or second picture when you pull on it?

This happened to me a couple of years ago. The inside handle is broken and not pulling the cable. When you replace it you will need either a commercial rivet gun and large rivets (like the factory used):

Or replace the rivets with a nut & bolt. If you use the nut & bolt I would use some blur Lock-Tite.

i used 1/4-20 x 3/4" bolts with flat washers on both side and teflon lock nuts. worked perfectly and cheaper if you dont have a large rivet gun. i cant remember if i had to enlarge the holes in the door or not but that easy enuf

I had a mechanic friend that let me borrow his rivet gun so just used that. In hind sight, the bold method is probably better on the rare occasion the handle needs future replacement.
