So yesterday I was under the hood checking everything to make sure all is ok. I closed the hood and normally I have to put it all the way down and then push the last couple inches (gently) for it to latch down. Well yesterday I just closed it normally and it latched.
So this morning its very foggy out and I am concentraiting on the road cause visibility is crap. I think to myself that the nose some how looks different but figure its cause I am leaning foreward to see better.
I do my 52 mile drive at 75mph most of the way and even hit 90+ while passing. Pull into my job, get out and see my hood is popped open. :(
I cant believe the hood didnt flip up! In a Stang it would have flipped up and broke the window! Good job Ford on making a safety catch that works! :D

I now return you to your regularly schedualed program.

many years ago, i was driving with my buddy in his mustang and he forgot to put the hood pins in (:q:q:q:qty fiberglass hood) needless to say as soon as we hit 50mph whoosh the hood flys open...pretty interesting...didnt smash the windshiled and hood was salvageable

WOW! YOUR LUCKY:eek: :D .......:shifty: are the rims ok?:shifty: :D

Rims are fine but damn the tires are getting bald! Pretty even wear and no belt showing but I pray every day that it dont rain. :shifty:

You got lucky man. Mine exploded the windshield before cause the catch didn't work. You may want to adjust the latch. Two screws and move it up alittle so it latches easier.

I drove 80 miles with my hood popped up... no idea how I didn't notice...

Marks have a good latch I guess...

And what did we learn, Laser?

We learned that I am a dumb ass.

I am a very lucky man. The hood normally closes just fine. Push it down till the safety catches and then a little push to lock it down is all it needs. This time when I pushed it down it went past the safety and appeared to be closed which seemed weird cause it never closed like that before. I even pulled up on the edge to check and it was solid.
I will be sure not to make that mistake again. :shifty:

I guess your message center isn't working, Mine tells me if my hood is opened!..................................NO IT DON'T.....But it should. Maybe you should install one of those refrigerator light buttons under the hood, with a little idiot light on the dash:eek: ;) :p

Oh yeah, seems they should have put a sensor on for that. Dman Ford! :fuss:

That has only happened to me one time in mine. I closed it like normal, all in one slam and I too pulled up on it and it was shut. I only got up to around 40 and the hood popped up and the safety caught it. I stopped real quick and pushed it back down again and it hasn't happened since.

I was drivin my crashed up 95 from geno's shop back to my house and after pullin outta the driveway of the shop i hit 15-20 mph and up goes the hood lol popped my head out the window pulled into the next parkin lot walked to walmart and bought a 12 pack of bungies and had a field day strappin her down.... this was all at night of course...... dunno why i thought the hood was shut... well any way thats my story and im stickin to it :p

back when I had my 95, I exited the freeway and there was a very sharp cloverleaf intersection. about halfway thru the turns my hood popped up.
I saw it..freaked me out.
lol

Laser, have you noticed how thin and flexible the sheetmetal is on the second gen hood?

..reason being as it is a very thin sheet of aluminum kinda like airplane stuff.

The best way I've found to close the hood is to lower it down until it's about 10 inches away from being close and simply "DROP IT".

if you try to "be nice" and set the hood gently down, then "press it closed" in variably over time your gonna put pressure dents in a very prominant place/will be easily seen.

using the "drop" method has worked on all my stangs, and has worked well on my mark 8's.

That meathod has not ever worked for my Mark. I place both my hands flat so I have as much surface area as possiable and then push it. It takes less pressure then pushing the door closed and about as much as closing the trunk. :)

:shifty: HOW DID GENO CRUSH IT?! Did you ask him for a unique custom look?:shifty:;) :p

lolol what !? HAHA Where you get that it was crushed? I CRASHED it and stored it at his shop for a couple weeks.... tryin to drive home a matchbox car wouldnt be very easy lol

if it doesnt work then your hood is bouncing off the rubber stops, and that means they are set too high
Screw em in a turn or two and drop the hood.

I also use the drop method on all marks I work on. Also has anyone ever seen an angry vette owner after he split the fiberglass hood on his 40,000 dollar car in half cause he was being "gentle" with it. YOU GOTS TO DROP IT LIKE ITS HOT!

I tried the whole "drop" technique with my Mark... it doesnt like it, never shuts. It's used to being abused it's whole life so the only way for it to stay shut is to just woof it down hard, if I slam it slightly softer, it pops on me everytime.

But of course, the drop method always seems to work on my stangs, lol

I guess my Mark is just very stubborn

Yeah, that always worked on my Stangs but the Marks hood dosent drop by itself. The hood stuts are too strong. If I hold the hood 1' up then it just stays there, maybe close very very slowly. The hood supports are pretty new....

Same here, I could never just drop my hood. The struts hold it too strong and I'm not complaining. I just push it down until I get about 6 to 8 inches from closing and then SLAM! Only one pop up since 2005. I think my struts were bench pressing that day.

That happened to me a few weeks ago. Before I drive off, I refilled my antifreeze and washer liquid. And with my hood I do the same as you push it down to keep it latched. I drove 50 miles stopped walk back to the car and its not all the way down. I was happy it didn't pop up on me
