Am I the only member who has absent-mindedly picked the 89 octane nozzle and pumped several gallons before realizing and completing the fil-up with 93? Just a sort of academic question........do the octanes average? If we mix 1 gallon of 87 with 1 gallon of 93 is the result 2 gallons of 91 octane?

Yes they average.. It's like putting octane booster in.. I usually mix 93 and 89.. I put in 93 and when it's at like 3/4, fill it up again with 89. Then run empty and restart the process..

what?
18gallon tank
3/4 of premium @ $2.82
1/4 of regular @ $2.59

so you save $0.23 on 4.5gallons = $1

you are joking right?

I always fill with 91, for the exact reason Quik posted. It's only a couple bucks on a full tank. Why skimp on something that the car NEEDS?

But, that's just me. I also normally don't pay more for higher octane if 91 is available.

no this has happend to me once or twice. the premium is almost always the farthest to the right, EXCEPT for this one brand of gas station that i almost never go to except when im almost out of gas, and there premium is the farthest to the left, tricky bastards.

i do however commonly make the mistake of putting 93 in my girlfriends cavalier all the frickin time!

I hear that. I have put premium into the gf's blazer more times than I've put the correct 87 octane in it lol.

Hey.. That whole dollar helps when you have a kid.. :D No.. I did it a few times to get that little bit more of gas but I usually run 93.. I am the kind of person who runs the tank always full.. If it goes around 3/4, I am putting gas in it.. When I got laid off for the winter, no money and the LS saying low fuel didn't make me very happy.. Now it's all good though.. I will emerge with a new exhaust and a full tank of fuel.. lol
