.....so i'm going to my girlfriends, get in the turn lane got a little to close and bumped my mirrior on another car it knocked the black plastic out bout 1/2" how do i get it back into place. 1998 lincoln mark viii

you dont, its broken, there are tabs that go in behind the glass and screw to the housing inside with torque's screws, you probably snapped a few of them. you can either go the hack route and use epoxy, or replace the mirror. or find a broken mirror with the black trim ring in good shape and take it off and put it on yours. to get it off though you must remove the glass, and that can and does break too, i would look for a whole mirror that matches your car. ebay has plenty.
