I've read "is the trans guy full of SHlT?" post with great interest (as well as many others on that topic.)

I'm getting ready to do the trannie Mercon V fluid replacement in my '97 LSC. I also have the 1-2 accumulator parts as well.

I feel I'm somewhat in a different boat than most MkVIII owners as my car only has 27k miles. I believe it has a SLIGHT shudder at approx 45 mph. Knowing the history of the car, I doubt it has ever been changed and feel certain it has never been abused. Fluid still looks good, no burnt smell at all.

I want to make sure the trannie is in the best condition before I do something like a BOC chip.

I'd hate to grenade it...:shifty:

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say you will be more than ok.

That is a superb looking Mark. I need to find me a low mileage unit like that. NICE NICE NICE!

Putting on an additional tranny cooler will help it live a long time, as well as Mercon V

When I got my 25000 mile 98 lcs it has a very slight shudder. mercon v stopped it with no problems. It worked fine on my 75000+ mile 94 also with no problems. I change every 20000 miles now.

I thought these trans all spec for mercon v. I've got the some car 98 and put some hard miles on the trans no issues yet 140000 miles. Cannt imagine the trans has any major problem at 27k. Is the trans in OD at 45 just lopin along. You say you got the 1-2 ac parts was this a major problem with the gen 2 cars. thought most of the issues were fixed for 97 up. Whats the deal. If 45 the magic number might not be the trans at all. Great lookin car. wish I had chrome wheels

I helped my uncle find a 93 Mark VIII with only 32,000 miles. It had the dreaded shudder, we flushed the tranny with Mercon 5 and the shudder is gone.

:shifty: Are you sure thats your mark? It looks just like mine! :D

Oh I'm sure it's my Mark...your's clearly has a hole in the roof that mine doesn't have.;) Your's looks very nice!

Thanks for the comments. I have heard horror stories about changing out all the trannie fluid.

I've been driving mostly in "OD off" mode anytime I'm under 50mph. It's drives much better that way. I don't like how it "hunts" for the OD around 45. I haven't seen any real drop in MPG by doing so. I hear that a chip can correct that.

From what I've read on these forums, the '97's do have the accumulator issue. Only the '98 is the "good one." Max at 5 star (where I got the parts) confirmed it for me.
