hey everybody, ive heard that the main diffrence between the engines in the mark and the continental is the tuning of the engine. being that the engines are tuned diffrently, maybe swapping the ecms will give the conti more power?

so just to be clear im talking about taking a ecm from a 1998 lincoln mark viii and installing it into a 1998 lincoln continental.

will it work?

thanks.

The tranny bolt pattern is different, marks have b heads, conti's have c heads. Conti's exhaust chokes it out, plus it a hair detuned. Pay some one for custon true duals with a XX or XXX crossover. Then get a tune.

i second the point of the trans bolt pattern is different. i have a 60k 98 conti engine just sitting around...wish i could sell it but the market sux...

98 Continental's have B HEADS... I would get a custom SCT tune and some exhaust work and be done with it...

i would say NO.
the ecm also controls the trans, and the trans are totally different designs i think.

ohh ok, yea i didnt know it also controls the trans in these. i thought they were separate. ive done intake/ exhaust work. ive removed the air silencer with a K&N filter. it has the resonators removed. and cherrybomb in place of the middle muffler.

heres a vid of the 0-60

were would i get the sct tune? i dont know of any local shops around here.
also which is better B heads or C heads?

I could swear that contis started getting C heads at some point

do you think a shop that tunes mustangs of the same year will ba able to do it?

Gotta call them...

Ford ECM have what is known as a strategy, it is a family of ECM's that "think" the same... then there are catch codes, these identify individual ECM's for the exact car they belong too...

Whether they can tune your depends on if they have the catch code...

I thought one of the main reasons for them being detuned was that the trans couldnt take the power so I would first look into upgrading the trans

they were rated at 265hp through 97 then 275 after that and they still do go through a lot of transmissions even if it is only 10-20hp less

Actually they are detuned allot, and there are allot of engine differences. And they are one 4.6 that ford over rated 275HP is really pushing it. My 2000 Navi would run circles around my 1999 conti. Hell they are not even a good match for a base Civic.

Have you looked at the actually tuning?

They really aren't detuned... no more than any other Lincoln...

well then how come the 98 conti only makes 265 when the 98 mark lsc makes 290?

also how come my conti seems like it looses power after 5,500 RPM. when the mark goes to 6,200+ no prob?

my trans is about to go anyway, when it does ill get a new one with upgrades.
