This is a question for all the Mark VIII owners on this site. I have an 01 Continental, does anyone know if it would be possible to replace the black shift knob on the floor shift selector in my Continental with the real wood shift knob from a 1997-98 Mark VIII? The two shift knobs look very much the same but the Continental shift knob does not have an overdrive button. They both have the same type of chrome button on the shifter. I don't know if the shift knob screws or otherwise connects to the shift lever the same way in both the Continental & Mark VIII or if the shift knob from each car connects to the lever in a different way.

No overdrive on a continental.

I'll bet a billion dollars the Continental does have overdrive. You'd be hard pressed to find a car transmission designed in the last 30 years without overdrive. What the Continental lacks, then, is the ability to control overdrive manually.

Exactly

1989 Ford Escort with the 3 speed automatic transmission. and the Lincoln LS with the 5 speed manual. ;)

From what I remember of my 95 continental, it had a "d" and a "d" with a circle around it. So it does have OD but you have to change it on the gear selector. It's not a button like the Mark VIII.
