Interesting. Maybe mine has been corrected or had the limiter removed then. I had it up to 100 with the 4.10's. And the speedo does seem accurate. Unfortunately I know little about this car as far as if it has a tune and if so what was changed. Thanks again for the info:D

all of those differences WILL show up in real world performance, no dyno required...

which is likely why the early marks in a good state of tune run 14.60's where the 94-95's run 15.0-15.3

thats about a 6-8 car length advantage in the 1/4 to the 93 model!!

I think you better include at least some 94's in with the 93's. Mine was stock with just a tuneup and ran 14.651 at 97.21 at Cecil before I sold it. It was considerablly faster SOP than my 96. It might have had a leftover 93 computer, but Mespock now owns it and could probably confirm the build date.

the w3z2 pcm was an early production model

Later in 93 they swapped to a gelded version and it was w3z3 so doubtful you have a leftover 93 PCM in your 94.

Yours is the first 94 that ran that well from what I can remember....so it's not fair to say 94's were "included" in the fastest of the stock mark 8's.

Yours IS the fastest stock 94 Mark 8!!!

Your talking about 4 MPH... well within the 3% error that most all speedometers have.

Now.. go try to do 120..without a tune.. your likely not gonna get there.

is this the car you bought that smelled like exhaust, has LMS exhaust and had a trunk full of obsolete parts????

IF SO.. the previous owner was not afraid to "spend money".. just the presence of the LMS exhaust tells you this, not to mention the obsolete very valuable parts in the trunk....

Now, with that said...
if the previous owner bought exhaust from Geno, it's not a far stretch of the imagination that he would have spent 1/3 of that amount and had geno make him a performance chip...which means.. you dont have a limiter.. IF it has a chip.

Pull the PCM down from above the brake pedal, look on the back side and see if it doesnt have a chip sticking out of the "service/Jport"

I'd be willing to bet you find a chip

When in Michigan at 131 and mid Michigan track prep and D/A sucked and it would run 15.0-15.1 in the 94.XX to 96.XX range. Loading the converter at launch and good track prep and D/A at Cecil (Maryland) brought it down the a 14.6. When running with the converter unloaded the times were 15 flat at 96.xx. From what I have read on here over the years several other stock 94's have run similar times. I had the timeslip posted at time, but that was back in 2006. Someone could have changed out the computer earlier in its life, but as I said Rich now owns the car. That post is still buried in the timeslips section with specifics.

Im gonna check for a chip tonight. And you are so very right about the previous owner not being afraid to spend money on these cars (especially this one) The guy was a part owner of a really nice shop here and they guys there told me he paid close to a grand for the exhaust and install even drove to Jersey to have Geno do it himself!!! I truly got lucky with this car. I just wish his fiance didnt flake out on the 95 LSC he had. I was gonna buy that one too but she really got nuts about the price once the guys at the shop told her how much he spent putting the trans in it.

Anyway I'll look for a chip on it tonight and maybe on my way home I will do a little field test of the limiter or lack thereof:D

that opposite of what I have seen with every mark 8 I've dealt with at the track including my own first and second gen, and both tiffany's first gens.

not to mention 20 or so other mark 8's that raced with us from time to time.

weird.

the cars would "flash the convertor" higher than it would if you "foot brake stalled it up" which got the car to 60' better, which made just about .2 tenths difference in ET..
but.. opposite of what your experience was.

Our cars, and others ran faster leaving "off idle" and flashing the converter rather than footbraking up against the converter.

I think you got lucky with the car also.
Did she sell the 95? If not, give her some time and space and contact her again.
Since you have "one of his cars" it's only right that the pair not be split up.

If they got a good trans in the car, then consider giving her a little more for the 95..
you DID get a good deal on the red car.. ya know?
Might "pay it forward" a bit...cant hurt right?

I've been drag racing since the early 90's and run at multiple tracks in 4 states. Every car I have ever run has run better (with traction) loading the converter. My 94 with a prepped track bogged down when leaving at idle.

weird.

The last argument about this on here netted several people who had the same results as I did.

just saying what I have seen in OH.. 5000 or so passes in the SAME car.

and I dont disagree that other cars, especially GM's worked alot better when footbraked up against the converter.

I started drag racing and bracket racing about 11 years before the 90's..dunno how relevant that is to this..but.. m'kay.

Feel free to do as you wish...no worries.

but I guarantee if I take a first timer out to the track and let him run it up against the convertor..his ET will be slower than if he used the technique I suggested... it's been done several times with many different mark 8 drivers.

I can take any first timer and run crap times with just about any car. I'm not a newbie by any stretch of the imagination, that is what the 20 years of running TNT's and bracket racing have to do with it. I rarely speak about that here though, or much of anything in my personal life. Saying that, their times are not relevant to mine. Even running the 94 I had to find the sweet spot at takeoff when loading the converter. I had a transbrake on the Mustang, but I ran drag radials when I used it. I only had a few thousand passes with that car, but I learned a lot and had a lot of fun with it.

What have we learned? 94 Mark VIII's can run mid 14's stock as well as the 93's.
 
And they can do it with a 310 pound driver.
 
no it's obvious it was the mustang driver distracted by the blue shirt that caused the crash

you didnt know its always the mustangs fault in ANY crash, im beginning to doubt you even owned a stang

every mustang owner knows that

the also know not to stop at accident scenes because the first cop that shows up will instantly blame the mustang driver.

(had the same thing happen to me)
i witnessed a drunk driver have a single car crash...while i was talking to the 911 operator on the phone.

even the 911 operator had a hard time convincing the cop that i was helping THEM and not involved in the accident

the cop even tried to ask the near comatose drunk if the mustang hit him
Luckily the drunk said WHAAA MOOSTANG, god only knows what would happed had the drunk said yes.
