hows everyone? many of u already know me, I'm in a dilemma i have a Gen 2 and its in need of the front end suspension done , I need advise I'm torn between a Ebay kit or advanced or rock-auto or pull-a-part ..... for the parts

ALL INPUT IS NEEDED PLEASE

Ebay kit is probably the best deal and if you buy all the stuff from the same seller, they should combine shipping. Definately don't pull old stuff off of one in a junkyard. New is the way to go.

do not buy an ebay kit unless it is moog or trw, anything else is el cheepo crap you will be replacing it again in less than a year trust me, i have been there trying to save money. just order it from autozone or advance auto, those are the cheapest prices on factory replacement parts you will get. TRW all the way.

What Jamie said is true. Spend a little time getting prices online from Advance, Auto Zone, and Rockauto to get the best deal. Some places are cheaper on certain parts than others.

we just talked about this earlier...lol

Rock auto for all moog

or advanced auto for TRW..

i also have a GEN 2 in need of a suspension rebuild and have spent hours of researching the last few days and shopping around...i've done all the hard work for you.

First off, order everything for a 97 Thunderbird

Secondly, do not put used parts on your car.

Third, dont ever ever buy any of the no name, cheap, suspension crap off of ebay.

Uppers - i got from arnott on ebay to save money $99 bucks for the pair...i felt i could skimp on this one...its better then the ebay cheapo's and the no name brands and has a lifetime warranty on them. If thats not good enough get moog from rockauto.

Lowers for a 97 bird (i got mine for a 95 supercoupe) are $60 a piece TRW brand at advance

I went with moog swaybar links $43 a side

Strut rod bushings - oem ford, get them from the dealer or max on this site $100 bucks

Tie rod ends - once again, advance trw or rockauto moog, look to spend about another $100 on the inner and outers, i'm not doing either right now because mine appear to be in great shape and they are greaseable. I'll examine when i do the rest of the work and replace if necessary.

That covers all the parts.

Entire front suspension build will put you right at $500 give or take a few dollars, using the better stuff, in parts alone. It sounds steep but you should be able to get another 70,000 miles or so out of it. The only way i would put the cheap crap on the car is if the suspension was SHOT and I had plans on selling it. If your keeping it, put TRW or MOOG on it.

Lux spends a lot of time doing his research before he does his upgrades. Listen to him and scratch what i said about ebay all the way :D

Heheheh...

Im not paying nearly that much for all my Moog stuff...

:D

Yup go to eBay ... then go back to eBay and get another set ... then go back to eBay ... get the picture ...

Oh try Max before you buy just for $hits and giggles.

If you still have your air suspension you should not order the T Bird upper control arms as they do not have the ball studs for the sensors.

One thing I noticed. I did get a driver side upper control arm off Ebay about six months ago because my upper ball joint was shot. The ball stud for the height sensor was about half an inch lower than on the other side. So it made the left front sit way higher than the right. I had to drill a hole in the sensor bracket about 1/2" below the original to raise the sensor so that both sides would sit the same height. PITA. But so far so good.

I agree about the cheap ebay stuff. Bought a pittman arm and idler arm for a truck, paid a friend with a shop to install and they were both shot within 6 months.

I'll stick with the TRWs from now on.
