Manual 5 speed owners?

ALSO!!! make sure to get the correct flywheel! If memory serves there are 2 different versions out there, one with 10mm dowel pins, and one with 6 (or 8?!)mm dowel pins.
reminds me i had to pull out the 11mm wing nut wrench today not exactly euro :rolleyes:
 
This is my 2000 5speed. It's my 12th LS so I decided to do something a lil out there and different. It's very frustrating at times to find parts for it but I love the rarity of having a manual transmission Lincoln. It amazes ppl. Currently its in the shop with electrical issues. Had a bad ecm. It's been a nightmare getting it back on the road but I can't give up on it. I'm glad I found this thread and now know there's more 5speed owners out there.

I decided to do something a lil out there and different
I like the color, but that is one ugly car. Reminds me of the way one of our Escorts looked when I bought it.

I keep a list of everyone on the site that mentions owning a manual LS, it currently has 15 names on it. But I have to give an honorable mention to my brother's manual LS in Oregon which has over 200,000 miles on it and has NEVER needed any unscheduled maintenance. I just hope it still resides in the garage space I cleared out for it when I visited pre pandemic, it was sitting outside under pine trees when I got there, which is NOT the way to reward a reliable servant (go to FEOA.net and see picture 'cocoons' in the photo section).

I ordered a 'Luk Repset Pro' clutch kit and measured the dowel pin holes (10mm) before ordering a matching flywheel. According to Ford Parts Giant that is the same size as our LS is equipped with anyway.

LSE-4_LYFE, I was talking about the inside of the car...and those lug nut covers. Really do like the color though.
Lol. It's ok. My kids love it and so do I. They helped me with it. Was a fun thing to do with it. I can always change it back to boring later. Spiked lugs are gone now though. @MarkEricRoth do you happen to know a company where I can get a new engine control module from? Shop I have my car at is having a very difficult time finding someone.
 
What you mean by expected to be available? I need a parts car. Or extra 5speed.
It is ready anytime, its registration ends on June 30th but I really no longer need the car. I had a Subaru and the LS was its backup, because with a Subaru, you should always have a backup car. I got another Subaru last spring, which came with a non-running spun bearing engine. I found out on the day the wrecker delivered that car, that I needed open heart surgery and the project had to wait until after I got a bypass in July, which left me unable to wrench for a few months. I finally coughed up the 10K to put the car back together, starting with a new short block. Now that car is fully operational, so each of my subies has a backup! The LS is free to leave the garage at any time, but it must be gone by the end of June because I am not registering it again. I still love driving it, but with the stock cooling fan setup, I bought one of the last available solenoid valves for the pump in summer of 2017 and have not driven it in hot weather since, due to hot weather and high cooling load being the suspected cause of my two solenoid failures. That makes it turn into a few hundred miles per year car by avoiding summer hot weather. That is the story.. I replaced my transmission back in 2011 or so, roughly 150K on it. The original one got noisy due to an unnoticed oil leak from the shift selector shaft seal and I needed to replace it since the damage was already done, creating that bearing noise internally. I would drive it to IL without a second thought, in case you are interested. I am in NH.

Oh Mikey it sucks to get old don't it? Whether you're a human or an LS, all things must pass. My cardio guy told me I'll need open heart at some time ssoner or later due to 2 bad valves. That diag would cause major surgery in an LS as well. Take good care my friend and I hope you will stay on this list or toss me an email so we can stay in touch. You've got over 100,000 more miles of experience than I do.

No worries George, I'll be sticking around. The heart thing is a nice new lease on life, getting through the first month or 2 is the hardest part. When your time comes, try to get them to do a titanium plate to close up your sternum instead of stainless steel wire. With the wire, you have to wait 3 months to lift more than 10 lbs, with the plate it is just a month. I have a 72 year-old co-worker that got it done in the bay area in December and the surgeon would not use titanium. He said that the screws can go through the bone and mess your innards up. He had done 7000 heart surgeries. I said that was BS. If they use the caliper to find your total sternum thickness, how can they possibly use longer screws than needed? Another whiskey tango foxtrot moment.. Anyway it is life-changing/restoring.
 
Nooooo... A late Neighbor of mine actually found someone that repairs that kind of stuff. I don't remember the place of business anymore, it was a long time ago, But I do remember that he found them under 'Radio Repair, Automotive' in the Yellow Pages. Try an internet search with a similar phrase and let us know if you find anything

When your time comes, try to get them to do a titanium plate to close up your sternum instead of stainless steel wire. Years ago I worked for Synthes (twice), at that time, experience showed that Stainless could cause strokes and titanium was harmless. When I busted my elbow roller skating in 2002 I insisted on titanium hardware. When I came to after surgery, the surgeon informed me that not only did he use only titanium hardware (1 plate and 7 screws), but it had come from Synthes. A year later, I had it all removed.
