ok so I posted a few weeks ago but this time its back with a vengence.

Its stummbling/shuttering the whole car when I step on the gas, even from like 2grand up. and it kinda sounds like its backfireing a lil or I here poping from the exhaust(not all the time) it feels liek I have about 50% power but it still goes when I step on it, Even with this problem. but also the car didn't die but I was doing abuot 45 and the car just kinda didn't wanna accelerate.. I stepped on teh gas and teh engine reved a lil bit but the car didn't go anywhere.. it was like my foot wasn't on the gas pedel but I had it floored, then the car died.. I started it back up and it got me home. The problem doesn't happen all the time tho.. like this am I drove it for about 20 minutes, it was fine for the 1st 10.. then it started to act up.. then it calmed down for about 30 seconds of good acceleration and then back to the problem... it has a really rough idle but the funny part is if you pop the hood and pull the throttle, the engine revs fine and I don't hear any knocks or loud noises.. it actually sounds very normal, well as normal as a car with my mods can sound.

Like I said I've had a broken rocker arm and a broken rod with my other car/engine... so I know what those feel like when driving. this doesn't feellike either of those... although lately its feeling like it did when I had my broken rocker arm in my 93....... ONLY difference was that in my 93 when it went I had chk engine lights, total loss of power, brakes went in and out.. it was justa nightmare... this seems more issolated, plus I have a 98 engine with the beehive type. I do have a newer 255lph fuel pump with about 30-40k miles on it and new filters all around(fuel) my transmission doesn't have o/d but the rest of the gears shift fine... I am not sure if this could be a transmission problem but why would it cause the car to do this? and

PLEASE HELP if you have any idea. Geno! ANYONE!!

I also rremember it kinda feels like it did in my bosses work van 1 time. it turned out they had said his cats are clogged.. But I have 2 highflow cats with about 15k miles on them.. I have no idea just bringing that up.

I've seen a similar promblem with a clogged exhaust, what other exhaust components do you have?

Sounds like a coil problem to me. Trans problems are often reliable in symptoms repeating, ignition is not. When was the last time the coils were checked?

gah......can't read, for lack of punctuation!

I'm gonna take a stab at this tho.

As stated before, Check the coils, Wires and plugs. test fuel pressure, and after all that check the exaust.

I had kind of a similar problem with my 98 that turned out to be a set of bad coils. Granted this was a gen 2, but the theroy is the same.

Have you had this thing tuned? I notice in your profile you have a 3K stall convertor with 4.10 gears, headers, along with an SCT Chip. Is you battery & alternator up to par? How old are your plugs, wires, and coil packs. Did you take the car to a tuner to have the chip installed and test driven for your combo? How new is the fuel filter and pump? Just trying to help.

Sorry about fuel pump question, I didn't read far enough. I would think that you not having forth gear (OD) is also a sign that the tranny is hurt as well.

I'm going to check the coils. I changed the plugs and its not that. the kid who had the car before me had put msd coils on... so they probally have 40k miles on them

Are there are types of qays I can check or troubleshoot the coilpacks or the rest of the ignition system?

I had a similar problem and it was as simple as where the air breather was it wasn't completely together and was getting to much air to the MAF. Secured everything and problem was gone. Very similar problems your having. Good Luck!

It's amazing how some of the smallest things on these cars can seem like a much larger problem.
