LSE stalls on WOT

My 02 LSE V8 stalls when you floor the gas pedal from idle in neutral. I can gently give it gas and it won't stall but it has a miss like a COP but they are all brand new Accel COP's. I even bought and extra COP and tried replacing one coil at a time, no change. I tested all of the COP's and connectors, all of them had spark. Also new...Vgc's, plugs, fuel injectors, fuel filter, and EGR valve. I removed the IAC and EGR control from my '00 LS and put them on my LSE, no change. I also cleaned my MAF sensor, no change.

I did a compression check and all cylinders were at 210psi except #7, it was around 180. I put a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder and re-tested and it was slightly higher but not much. I had the exact same readings on my '00 LS but it was cylinder #8 that was lower and it doesnt run bad at all.

I also checked the vacuum system, pressure was around 18hg at idle. When I opened the throttle quickly, pressure droped to 0hg. If I open the throttle slow it dips initially but recovers to around 20hg at 2000 RPM.

I can't drive the car right now because it's on jackstands, I'm having a problem bleeding the brakes (obviously an unrelated problem) so that's why I have no driveablity descriptions of the stalling problem. I have searched the forum and only the things I have already changed or checked were mentioned. I have no idea where to go from here. I'm lost and any help would be greatly appreciated.
 
More info...all of my plugs were fairly dark. I'm assuming it was the hard start problem I was/am still having causing a rich condition...although I'm not rich so this sucks. Anyway, I am also getting alot of water coming from my exhaust too, I'm thinking more than normal cause once again, my '00 doesnt have water coming out of the exhaust like this. Havent searched on that yet.

So what's next...Fuel pump?...CAT's?...vehicular arson?...Anyone??
 
New plugs after 100 miles, 20-40 hard starts in the garage followed by a few hours worth of warmups and idle time.

There is a rev limiter on Lincoln Ls's that won't allow you to rev it more than ~3,000 rpm in park or nuetral. The water you are seeing is condensation from the warm/hot exhaust on a cold exhaust system - normal and the plugs fine.

Now go out and enjoy the nice holdiay weather

I know about the rev limiter, that doesnt explain the stalling when I floor the pedal from idle or the miss in the engine at any RPM, more noticably at lower RPMs....and believe me....I'd love to have had this beauty out and cleaned up on this perfect day!! Sunny and 80ish....best day of the year so far!

On another note...no CEL's to report.

Unless you are doing this with the wheels down on the ground and the transmission in gear, you may be chasing a false problem.

I could be. I need to get it out on the road for a bit and see if it flashes a CEL under driving conditions. I just dont know though, it doesn't seem like thats the issue but then again when is an LS ever typical??
 
Off-subject.

Where did you get the heat-shield for your intake filter? If you made it would you mind sharing the dimensions?

LOL...I know right? Seriously though, thats the only time it stalls and it shouldn't stall at all. I've been throwing parts at this thing for too long to give up now. What makes things worse...I never got to run the car when I bought it because the COPs were so bad so I don't know if the problem existed before I started all the work. It ran fine for the two days I was able to drive it but it always had the 'hard start' problem which led me to the fuel injectors. It has ran like crap since I put it back together from the injector job. So as it sits now, Thursday I'm going to pull the injector rail back off and make sure all the injector o-rings are still good. There's no sign of raw fuel around the injectors but I don't know what else to check at this point. Is there a way to test the fuel pressure regulator maybe....anyone?
 
Didn't mechanicboy chase a mystery miss for awhile with accel coils too? He ended up re wiring his coils IIRC.

The fuel pressure is regulated electronically. There is a fuel pressure sensor, but any gross problems with it would trigger the check engine light.

Timing chain/chain tensioner issues can cause similar symptoms (even with good compression).

If the coils are wired backwards, they will send extra RF energy through the PCM and that can cause lots of issues.

I searched for that thread at work quickly and found it. I didnt have much time to read it closely but he did reverse the wires. His was a V6 though. I'm going to see if the v6's have the same COPS as the V8's and if so....I will try that. I can't remember anyone else having to reverse them on the V8 when they used the Accel's but maybe I missed that.
 
Ok, I read the thread about mechanicboy switching his coil wires. http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=73132&highlight=coils It was on the V6, mine is a V8. The coils have different part #'s fron the V6's to the V8's. The boot is shorter but the plug is still oriented the same way. HMMMM....to switch polarity or not? It ran pretty good for the 2 days I was able to drive it but ever since I did the injectors....misfire/stall.
 
Holy $h1t...switched the wires around on the COP connectors and she runs beautiful!!! Has anyone else had to do this?? I cant recall reading about it. Or is it just common sense because the connector on the Accel COP is upside down? Either way I am happy as HELL!!
 
He was the first person I ever heard saying anything about flipping wires around to have them work correctly. Either way glad it worked out for you!
 
I did it and I keep a link in my sig for all with accels because I found it that important too. Sorry I didn't read this thread sooner..

LOL...I was just reading the thread about the exhaust parts you bought and saw it in your sig. I need to pay more attention! The LSE runs beautiful now. I'm going to hit the quarter mile in a week or two before I do anymore mods. Next up....brake rotors and pads, tires, exhaust, and 8.8" LSD with 3.58's

I will probly do the differential swap and go with 4.10's. I know a guy at a local salvage yard who can keep an eye out for a differential. I will also need some new axle shafts, the shaft threads have rusted off past the axle nut so I dont think I will be able to re-thread the nut. The factory wheels were holding water and rusting the hub assemblies. It just depends on timing. That's not on the top of my list but I would like to do it this winter when I can park the car for awhile and take my time. I'm too excited about just getting to drive it now. I will also need to do some suspension work too. Front and rear stabilizer links and rear adjust links to start.
