LSC f100 98

Good, I remember when I posted that hopin' to get a rise out of ya about our 'races'.

Because a trans overhaul is probably the hardest thing to rebuild in a car and a bigger bitch to remove the trans a second time if it isn't right. I rebuilt mine with the help of the trans guy at the ford dealer and I was still overwhelmed.

And just some advise, im not sure how well you can spell, but just a simple spell check will save you a lot of grief around here. See instead of C, why instead of Y. And just proof read your posts before you click the post button, it makesmpeople think you are unintelligent and opens up some places where people can pick on you. I met you in person and you seem like a cool guy. Don't get discouraged, however I still recommend letting someone rebuild your trans or buy a reman one. Hell, if you think you can do it, more power to ya and you'll prove a lot of people wrong. Also inmmy opinion, dont do anything fansy while youre in there. Wait till it drives good before you do something like jmod it, so in the event it doesn't drive right you will have a better idea where to look for the problem. I am a Ford diesel engine/chassis master, and I still would be a little uncomfortable rebuilding my trans. Mostly because if its wrong you gotta pull it on your back again, unless you have a lift.

Dan, well said.

LSC 98 f100, I am with Dan on this as are a lot of people. I might not be a certified mechanic and there are quite a few of us shade tree guys here who have been wrenching since we were old enough to hold one and see over the fender, transmissions are best left to the guys who only do that. I for one have rarely if ever seen someone be anything other than a trans guy.

All the best to you on whatever route you decide on and as Dan says, we do not want to see you fail if only for the frustration it would cause having to pull it again and pay again for the same parts plus more.

I agree.

I have been working on cars forever it seems like. There is tons I dont know and I learn new stuff every time I work on something. I have watched automatics being rebuilt a couple times. I handed parts or tools as the guy was doing the work and I still couldnt tell you what order what goes in there. I know it took some special tools to do it right and gears had to be in a certain way to install a pin or move something.... its a crap ton of stuff you need to know to just get it together.

I make a living working on cars and my car wouldnt be as nice as it is if I didnt do all the work myself but when it comes to a trans, if mine fails I will buy another one cause you can get a good one for under $300 and its around $1400 to have one rebuilt.

Of course at high power levels that changes. When I up my cars power I fulley expect to blow my trans. Then I will spend $1400 for a rebuild cause it will be with high hp parts. :)

$1400 to rebuild?! holy :q:q:q:q! i was quoted $900 to drop off the car and ended up paying $400ish cuz i delivered them the transmission.

Well I havent priced a rebuild since I lived in Hawaii, everythings more expensive there.

Ok i have bin reading up on all of my books on just this transmission as you can see in my photos of my parts. I have gone to school for two years just for automotive and my father is an ASE certified mechanic. He also has a successful automotive business so if i need help he is there and he is proud of me for wanting to do this, I have always bin interested in the automatic transmission and this is my chance to try it. i understand that y'all have bin working on mark viii's alot longer than I, and that is the reason that i asked for links to the correct proceeders.

the point is, in all the work that these people do, a transmission is still out of their reach. a transmission is extremely complex, maybe the most complex mechanical gizmo in the car. if you're going to try, more power to you. but i wouldn't expect it to work on round one.

i have a spare truck and will get it right but if i have to do it more than 3 times i will get a reman one from work with a good discount :)
