Ls with a SCT tune

well I hope not. not to drop my tough thin veneer - but I actually sent him a PM momments after my first post answering his question and sending him links to the usual threads on the SCT FLasher/Tuner topic.

I thought it was actually funny, albeit cynical.

.

holy crap, I never thought about sending a purposeful PM after publicly kicking someone in the nuts on the message board.

Hmm a new beginning maybe?

OH HELL NO!

(Kicks LS in the nuts)

you just contributed in the non contributions fyi. You just stated the idiocy of asking something that is highly discussed in this group and if "SEARCH" doesn't speak load enough maybe "SIGN OUT" will :P

i dont speak load, but i can speak pretty loud!:) i am aware im contributed nothing, and am very shameful. thank you for your late night entertainment.

Moving back to a serious reply (sorry guys :D ), I just programmed my 06LS with Torrie's "Performance" tune and can say that it definitely feels like a different car! He had to back off the 2-3 shift because it felt like the car was giving me a solid boot in the patoot when shifting, but all is well now.
Got the crap scared out of me during the first flash though when the message console went haywire (gear select data error, service park brake, engine failsafe mode, etc.)

Playa,
please PM me the info too. How much, what you got for the price and what the process was to get the tune. Thanks bro-!

well hell if we are going to get serious...

here's what I sent the OP -
here's the first post on the SCT - http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=3541 - read down to post #8, that when we got it working with the LS.

Since then there has been numerous models and upgrade but it all the same idea.

Your selection of which tuning shop to buy it from is the most important thing about this. If there is a SCT dealer with an in-house dyno near you - that is the best. If not, Torrie@fastpartsnetwork.com is a tuner that many, many of us use.

I have used the XCal1, XCal2 and Livewire - the SCT products are the only option for the LS that I know of. Being able to datalog, send that to a tuner, they adjust the tune and e-mail you back a new file makes the process pretty painless.

In regards to my post that was qouted...
I asked for the PROCESS in other words did you just email the guy and he sends you everything you need?
I asked for the PRICE in other words how much did the entire deal cost.
I asked for WHAT HE GOT FOR THE PRICE...
NONE of that was coved by Playa in his post, he simply said he is running a tune from Torrie- and I asked him to PM me.
No reason to "LOL".

The PROCESS: contact torrie and have all your questions answered.
Torrie is the only one that can do that.

You asking one of his customers isnt' the best nor the most accurate way to get the info you seek.

The PRICE is also best addressed with the vendor, because there could be "more to the story" that you aren't aware of... but Torries prices ARE posted on his website.

Go to the source, the person you will be dealing with.

That will eliminate any perceptions, and speculations and possible issues you may run into.

Sure thing. Got my SCT X3 from Torrie McPhail at FastPartsNetworks for $379 + ship.

Came pre-loaded with 3 custom tunes (listed as Performance, Firm Shift and Aggressive) - no need to hook it up to a PC just yet (unless you want to load in revised tunes, in which case you would follow these instructions : http://www.sctflash.com/PDF/LoadingCustomTunes.pdf )

To program, hook up the X3's cable to the LS' OBD port with the car OFF, select "Program Vehicle", "Custom" and select the tune that you want. It'll then allow you to adjust some user options (varies depending on the tune/who made it). I left this at defaults (using "Skip Options").

Next, the X3 will ask you to turn your key to the ON position (but please DO NOT actually start your car) and it'll proceed doing it's black magic. During this, you'll get all sorts of weird messages (E for the gear indicator, the error messages in my earlier post, etc.) and it sounded like the cooling fan became active.

If this is your very first time programming the LS, the X3 will first make a copy of the stock tune (which you should backup to your PC after you're all done). IIRC, this took about 5-10 mins. Next it actually uploads your selected tune to the LS, which takes about another 5-10 mins. It'll tell you the programming is complete and to turn the key to the OFF position.

Now you're ready to rumble :)

DISCLAIMER : WBDP is not a vendor and does not assume any liability should you FUBAR your LS

I dont guess anyone informed you about the fuel pump or the fan fuse?

1. fan: I would either unplug the fan or take out the fan fuse
2. fuel pump isn't an issue unless you have a leaky injector, in which case it WILL pump the affected cylinder full of gasoline.

I dont need to tell you what happens when a cylinder is full of liquid fuel and the piston comes to the top of the cylinder? do I?

Issue with #1, the fan.
IF at ANY point during the flash process your cars voltage drops below 12.5 or 12.0 volts you stand a very good chance of disabling your car, which will require a trip to the dealership (not a free trip either)..also you stand a chance of HOSING the PCM in which you would need a replacement.

Be careful telling people how to do this on the internet, because undoubtably someone will follow your directions, then screw something up, then they'll say...
NOBODY TOLD ME!!!

The above mentioned cautions should be in the instructions that came with the device.

Now there are people who ignore those warnings, and have no problems.
BUT.. like I said.. becareful.. someone WILL screw it up.

That stuff's been mentioned on here since the XCAL was known to work with the LS. If you don't search, you deserve a melted piston or two. :D

You know the drill, "I" know the drill..
But apparently the "noobie budding t00ners" dont seem to feel it's important enough to "pass on"..lol

With that said ,neither of those issues would result in a melted piston...

Issue 1 will result in a trip to the dealer and possibly a new PCM

Issue 2 will result in BENT rods, broken pistons and an overall "BOAT ANCHOR of an engine".

n00bs have been warned..

now watch..someone will STILL screw this up and say "NO BODY TOLD ME" WHAAA WHAAA WHAAAA

When the time comes to go XCAL, be most assured that I will be doing a hefty amount of searching before anything is done to the car. I merely wanted to ask Playa of his purchasing and interaction with the tuner/tuning distributor/or whatever else you want to call him because there have been posts by others concerning responsiveness (not saying justified or not, just that they were posted) to questions or issues.

In short, Playa had a positive experience and I wanted to know if there was anything special he did to make it so.

TRU - not "tuned" in

If you want to have a pleasureable experience you need to be honest with yourself.. and the tuner.

dont expect the tuner to fix mechanical issues with the car, many people think that tuners eliminate the need for proper maintenence.

Do a proper tune up before you get the tune
make sure your car has adequate fuel pressure before the tune
Make sure your car has a clean maf sensor before the tune
Make sure your car has no "idle issues" that would indicate a bad, TPS or a vacuum leak

AND.. if your car doesnt act right after the tune, dont jump on the internet and kick the tuner in the nuts.

Many times a car will run fine on the stock calibration, but issues will arise once a performance tune has been installed.. 99% of the time, this is NOT a problem with the tune, but an underlying issue with the car itself.

The stock tune leaves alot of performace on the table, and will operate under "less than optimum" conditions or state of tune

Once you go to extract the full potential from the car with the tune, you also lose some of the cars ability to operate with "dirty maf, weak fuel pump, weak coils, or bad spark plugs"...
