LS vs ????????????

why compare? Probably just end up regretting your purchase when you see what the others offer.

I bought my 04 because with 22,000 miles and for $19,000.00
it was a great bargain compared to a BMW or a Mercedes, Audi Volvo, Lexus.
It has everything I wanted and excellent manners on potholes and off ramps and at 100+ mph.
At mid 14 second 1/4 mile performance and overall 18 mpg it's hard to beat for what it is.
Though not cheap to fix it's still better than the competition.

Can't say I've regretted buying either of my LSes. (Well, there was the typical period of initial buyer's remorse, but that happens with every car purchase.)

Personally, though, I agree; I see no need to compare any car to my LS.

I also have 2005 LS. can't say enough about this car. Mine had 22k miles on it, I feel like I stole this car for 20k dollars. What a beauty. I'm helping my friend look for a car now, and I can see I got a great deal with all the options and comfort of this car. The heated/COOLED seats were the deal clincher, but I love the V8 power and overall gas mileage is around 18 mpg, mostly city.

In looking at other used luxury vehicles for my friend, such as acura, Lexus, Infiniti, I think you got a great deal. Esp. because you couldn't get all the options available on the LS on these other brands without spending 32k plus for them, and don't forget the LS was priced at low 40's brand new. Enjoy your ride!!!

You are right, the LS is an awesome car. Its sort of a niche that few know about. I believe my 2003 was a great deal especially on a V8 with only 14,000 miles, I paid about 21 and some change. Heated and cooled seats are defintely a plus and so is the navigation (except for the cost of replacement discs). It was hard to find a decent LS for me at first but I finally found one and I couldn't pass it up. I took the LS over BMW, Mercedes and Audi. The V8 power is ample and the car looks great, most people don't realize what type of car it is when they ask me.

I don't think it has any thing to compare it with. Maybe the Lexus LS 400.

I find lots of people that know of the LS in public and other forums. Its just not as desired by them but they all say its a damn nice car.

I know a lot of people who have seen my LS have compared it to BMW's, and it is very similar to a Jaguar being that the V8 has the Jag engine (and someone told me it was built on a Jag chassis, or that they shared the same chassis, is that true?). When I saw my first LS I thought it was a Beemer and have loved them ever since.

I never had any buyer's remorse though. I got my 01 in April with 43k on it for $10,500 after trade-in (the dealer gave me $3k for a '97 Taurus with 75k miles but a leaky tranny and coolant system!) and I have not looked back. Great ride, tons of features, fast, looks good. People think I am a rich guy haha! It is a great car don't experience regret!

They were meant to compete with some BMW's but i wouldn compare them to either that or the Jag. IMO (and it is only just that) the BMW's that they would compare them to blow them out of the water but they are still cheaper which makes up for it as far as Im concerned.

and someone told me it was built on a Jag chassis, or that they shared the same chassis, is that true?

Yup.

Why wouldn't you compare them to a Jag if they have the same engine and chassis? I know the BMW 5-series is a nicer car, but I don't know about blow them out of the water. I have friends either 3 and 5 series Beemers and I don't think it is that far off in quality or performance. Honestly I like the interior and performance of my LS V8 better than my friends 2002 3-series. I have another friend with an 05 5-series and it is a bit edgier/Euro in style (obviously) but it does not kill the LS in features and I bet I could take him in a drag race :)

The LS, Jaguar S-Type and Ford Thunderbird were all built off the same platform, DEW98.

1) The Lincoln LS does NOT have a Jag engine. The 3.9L V8 is derived from the Jaguar AJ engines, but it was built in the US, and the only commonality between it (AJ30/AJ35) and the Jag AJs is in the block. Everything else is different, with the design and development having been done by Lincoln in Dearborn.

To be fair, Jag did adopt the same VVT as the LS--but it was developed in Dearborn, not Coventry.

2) DEW98 was a Ford project into which they brought Jag engineering expertise; it originated in and was primarily developed in Dearborn. In other words, DEW98 would have happened whether Jag had been involved or not.

Correct me if I am wrong, and the Jaguar X-Type.

Agreed. The interior on that vehicle is not luxury and the seats are nothing compared to mine in my LS.

I own an 01 LS v8 and a 05 bmw 545i 6spd, in comparison feature wise the ls is right up there with peer european models but they didnt squeeze enough power out of the 3.9 if you ask me. with the 50/50 weight dist and being rear wheel drive its def a sporty car but couldnt say its really a "fast" car esp with todays standards.

either way I just took the plates off the bmw to put my ls back on the road :D

Those BMW's would blow it out of the water, any other BMW's are much of a lesser quality and still shouldnt be compared. I wouldnt compare it to the Jag cause despite the simmilarities ( less than most think ) the Jag is way more classy and elegant and the LS still has that agressive sporty type stance and look to it. But again it was only my opinion and I would never base fact on just that.

True. The Jag is definitely classy and not sporty or agressive looking as opposed to the LS. The BMW 3 and 5 series look just like the LS as far as the overall lines.

Yes.

I honestly have been thinking and I say it can be compared to the Lexus LS 400. Especially the earlier ones ( compared to the first gen LS ) despite the time lines they have been made. The Lexus LS 400 of the 90's came with around the same HP, same suspension (but it did have the option where it could be adjusted from the cabin of the car on some models) both 4 door luxury sedans and both had a powerful aggressive stance. They almost had the same fuel mileage and all as well as the later LS400's having some of the same interior options and extras as the LS.

Both the Lexus LS line of cars and the Lincoln LS are my favorites unless we go back in time.

<very dissapointed.

i thought this was going to be a racing thread.

looks: similar to a bmw 7 series, maybe an ls400/430
performance: ls400/430, bmw 5 series, mercedes non-amg e-class.

no hate on the ls but I dont think there were many in class v8's the lincoln could beat, the 540i had a full second on it 0-60 for one.

05 545i blows the ls's doors clean off, when you say 5 series maybe you mean the straight 6 530i, which i think it could keep up with but not beat.

I suppose the LS is the super value car in it's class.
Now if Ford had put in a 5 liter engine with a 100 more hp
it would have been a real euro car killer.
With a CAI and a tune you get over 300 hp which makes it no slouch
in the performance dept.
Ford's failure with the LS is our gain as we get a great
sedan at a price more of us can afford.
