So today i went and picked up my 2003 lincoln ls v8 with 165,000 km i started to drive and after about 50 km the engine or transmission started to act up (almost like a grinding sound) i wasnt sure about it but thought it was the bigger engine im not used to. so later around 100 km i go the slam the gas (doing about 40 kph) to see the balls it had and nothing happened the rpms jumped through the roof to 6000 and my tech stayed still. as this was happening it sounded like a grinding or the engine was misfireing (all the sound comes from the engine area not back axle) the car will run great at idle and below 30 kph any ideas what it could be (ive searched for this but cant really find anything like this)

during WOT, Flashing Check Engine Light then goes out after a few minutes of normal driving ?

if not ~

Turn around and get your money back, you bought an LS which needs a new transmission.
(at least indicated by your description of 6K RPM, grinding sound w/ = not going anywhere)

yea when i turn on the car everything is normal no lights nothing then once it hit 40 transmission is basically dead

No it's not a good sound, and I'm not to happy about it, I bought the car safetied and e-tested and the transmission is shot. Like I've only put 100 km on it

despite that issue, the exhaust sounds great, what's it got on it ?

no the whole car is stock nothing has been done to it the sound is not the exhaust its the engine ive dug a bit deeper and i think the cat is backed up with might be whats making the sound

Feature Mods: 35% tint, Magnaflow exhaust, in dash nav, new rims, and sub

Very strange, it does NOT sound like a stock LS.

Seems gutless, hard to get the RPM's up, roadspeed doesn't match.

No CEL lights up on the dash, wonder if the exhaust cam has already skipped one tooth.
Highly unlikely, that grinding sound does not sound like timing chain or tensioner.

You'd know it if the CAT were clogged up, you'd not even be able to get the revs up as high as you can now.

Best thing would be to take it back to the guys you bought it from and tell them this is not acceptable nor normal.

Just looked at the vid several times again ... besides the fact that it sounds beast, yet you claim it's stock,
what gets me the most is the fact you are only getting 45KMh @ 4100 RPM before it started to grind.
It's a Canadian dash, it's not even getting up to 50KMh @ 4K RPM ... that seems restricted to me.

Doesn't sound like a misfire to me. I really would have thought if the CATS were clogged she'd want to stall out.

Keep us posted please, very interesting ...

yea its going into the shop tomorrow i bought it from a dealer so they should be fixing it for free ill let you guys know what they find tomorrow other then this the car is mint and is awesome cant find anything else wrong with it though

im thinking it could be a few things along with the CAT clogged ( theres little pressure coming from the exhaust )

ill post a vid in the morning of the car idleing it idles around 500-500 RPM Not sure if that normal for the car or not

Normal, they idle low. I'm actually going to have the tune adjusted and bump it up ever so slightly.

so we got a big ice storm last night had about 3-4cm of ice on the car, brought the car in and the ass holes in the shop decide to keep the car for 3 hours just to tell me the the car is reading no codes and i need to bring it back monday, they didnt want to cut off the CATS even tho they already had a rough idea what it was and they didnt go buy the parts so they did nothing lol so cars going back monday and well find out whats up

Cats usually don't just clog right away. You said it was driving fine and then started acting up. With no cel or misfire that's hard to believe. Can you manually shift through the gears? How do you even drive it if it can't get past 25mph??

In the meantime, while you get it fixed, amuse yourself with this vid, see how it's supposed to run.
Take notice of the back-scratch @ 5:15 in. LOL ... also, I never lay into the throttle full bore 100% to the floor,
I always hold back at about 90% throttle, simple roll-on's without overdoing it too much.

yeah my car runs nothing like that lol hopefully after a new exhaust, fuel filter and a full tune up she'll run like that lol fingers crossed

So turns out the that the CATS were clogged up there being replaced now and I'll get the car back in a hour hopefully everything runs good

So it turns out it was the CATS clogged up same with the fuel filter. I just have to run some injected cleaner and it will be running mint. I got LOTS of power now. I'm a very happy man now lol
